Cal is off with Mom, but for once, we didn't go out...instead, we've both been hammering away at various projects, and I'm pleased to say I've been able to add 1,000 more words to A Rope of Thorns. This is good for a bunch of reasons, not least being A) I also did at least 1,000 to 1,500 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as well, and B) though some of those words were "just" notes, those notes allowed me to work through a couple of different looming plot points, and discover a stealth new sex scene, to boot! It promises to be psychologically necessary and conflicted, yet hopefully still hawt..my favorite kind. One of, anyhow.;)

A week of win, in other words, even without the added pleasure of getting my contract for a Pseudopod adaptation of "At the Poor Girl Taken by Surprise", or learning the ultimate fate of one of my looming extracurricular stories (positive, but I can't talk about it in public just yet). Still, I'm very tired, so I don't think I'll be able to stay up much later. I will therefore confine myself to the following observations:

Watched the first instalment of Stephen Moffatt's Sherlock, and absolutely loved it. Had to wonder if Sherlock's "I'm a high-functioning sociopath!" idea for living was the result of self-diagnosis, though. I also heartily approve of Watson being the guy who can do the things Sherlock can't/won't, and introducing Mycroft as though he were Moriarty. (Watson: "So...when you say you worry about him--you actually do worry about him?" Mycroft: "All the time. Wouldn't you?")

Also finished M.K. Hobson's The Native Star, of which I simply have to say: Damn. Seriously--she takes 1880s America and a crazy magic system and does them SO much better than I do, what with the consistently logical and vicious paying through of every introduced idea, 'til, right at the end...Aztec gods, too?! You'll read the first few pages, think you're in for a cute paranormal romance, and then by the time you're on Chapter Next-to-last, your eyes will be rolling back in your head. She's aMAzing, and I curse her explicitly.;))

Okay, that's about it for me. Off to bed.

Ooh, I have "The Native Star" sitting on my TBR pile. I think it's getting bumped up to 'next thing I read'.

So glad it was a week of win for you! :)

One of the many, many things I loved about Sherlock was the portrayal of Lestrade, who's normally something of an incompetent. Here he knows full well when he needs Holmes' help to get to the bottom of something weird, but unlike Watson (so far), the glitter was worn off and he can see Holmes' faults, the biggest being he may well go up in flames one day and take people with him.

And the little pop-ups of "Holmes' Vision" were great. Ditto Ms. Hudson just assuming they're gay.

Yeah. "Sherlock Holmes is great man...and if we're very lucky, one day, he may even be a good one."

That being said: Oh my GOD, is Rupert Graves looking old. Not bad, per se. But very, very old. It's a bit off-putting, since it proves I'm old enough to recall back to when he was still the Merchant-Ivory go-to Hot Young Guy.

Oh, this is THAT SHerlock Holmes?? I saw an episode of this before my satellite went wonky. Ian Hart(?) the guy who played John Lennon anyway in Backbeat, was Watson. I should say, I saw part of an episode, because I never got to see whodunit. bugger.

Actually, if it was the Moffatt/Cumberbatch version, the guy playing Watson's named Martin Freeman. Much like Cumberbatch, I've never seen him in anything before, but he's great; Ian Hart would be great too, though!
