Third Day's The Charm
Mar. 18th, 2005 09:58 amWord-count thus far: 3,059. I'm done with the prologue (here called the "title crawl") and probably about halfway through Chapter One. Some mild reservations about the use of limited third person present for everybody, but it's certainly working for Main Character One thus far. And that's about as technical as I feel like getting this morning.
Yesterday afternoon I took Cal with me when I went to check the mail, and noticed a sizable group of people with strollers standing around outside the fabled Coffee Room, a place where much building community action often seems to take place. Turns out there's an unofficial group of Moms and Dads who meet there every Thursday at 2:00 PM, let their kids play together and talk nannies, daycare, teething, equipment, etc. At barely six months, Cal is definitely the baby-type baby of the group; the resultant scrum was fascinating, especially for him, and he spent most of it closely studying a guy named Aidan who's A) eight months, B) half his size and C) crawling freely. Many compliments on Cal's size and good looks ensued, but the real plus of the exercise has been finally tripping headlong across those other mothers Mom has been pushing me to try and network with. One told me there's also a group who meet for lunch at the Hot House each Thursday, then go see Movies For Mommies at the Rainbow: Something which also bears looking into, obviously. Though not next week, because Steve is booking a vacation day, and has promised to take Cal so that Michael McMaster and I can try to break the Year Zero pilot's spine.
Otherwise, last night's Point Pleasant finally caught fire ("This is my process!" "I wish I had a process."), probably just in time for cancellation. Too bad--Christina and her gawky, pop-eyed Antichrist-ness will be missed, at least by me.
