And do check out the movie adaptation, too; Roddy MacDowell's Fischer was a huge influence on Carraclough Devize, as well as being first in a long line of characters played by gay actors I found myself distractedly yearning after.

I have an incredible fondness for Roddy McDowall despite the fact that I've never seen him any substantial adult roles; I know him mostly as a child and bit character actor and if you know where to find his film Tam-Lin, I will light candles to you.
