This is beginning to feel depressingly cyclical; once again, here we are recapping the week over (ta DA!) the weekend. Short story: Steve had this event (finally fucking over), Cal got sick again (free-floating Daycare lurg) and acted like a nut all day every day, I cooked at home from scratch five nights out of five, didn’t work out after Monday, kicked right into the rung of the rocking-chair by accident and ended up with a painful bone-bruise on top of my foot, got my period, made more (slow) progress on Lilim, and seem to have somehow lost my mark-book…which, since we’re rapidly moving into marking season, may soon become fairly key in determining many of my future school-based decisions. Also, the full story-edit is due on Monday.

In slightly more interesting news, the Diners Christmas Party is next Saturday, so I finally made those mixes. The eventual roster reads as follows:

2006.1—Wet With the Midnight Dew
1. God’s Gonna Cut You Down, Johnny Cash
2. Ramalama (Bang Bang), Roisin Murphy
3. Cells, the Servant
4. Hung Up, Madonna
5. Heartattack & Vine, John Hammond, Jnr.
6. I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight, Linda and Richard Thompson
7. Poems. Mandy Patinkin
8. Tam Lin, Mediaeval Baebes
9. Sacred Touch of Beauty, Ghostland
10. Death of it All, Rob Zombie
11. Mary Don’t You Weep, Bruce Springsteen
12. Come, O Come Emmanuel, Various Artists

2006.2—A Lot Better Off if You Just Forget Me
1. Different Drum, Susannah Hoffs and Matthew Sweet
2. A Question of Temperature, the Balloon Farm
3. Yellow Fever Psalm, Jocelyn Pook
4. Nuclear Daydream, Joseph Arthur
5. Dirty Knife, Neko Case
6. I Dug up a Diamond, Mark Knopffler and Emmylou Harris
7. I Found a Reason, Cat Power
8. Bird Gerhl, Antony and the Johnsons
9. Suddenly I See, KT Tunstall
10. Neighborhood #3: Power Out, the Arcade Fire
11. Wartime Prayers, Paul Simon

2006.3—No Fighting! No Fighting!
1. Hips Don’t Lie, Shakira feat. Wycliff
2. You Know My Name, Chris Cornell
3. Maneater, Nelly Furtado
4. The Rain, k-os
5. Single, Natasha Bedingfield
6. Luschina’s Lullabye (Track 2), Laurel Macdonald
7. Every Day is Exactly the Same, Nine Inch Nails
8. I Dream a Highway, Gillian Welch
9. Flaming Telepaths, Blue Oyster Cult
10. Pilgrimage, Conjure One
11. Feet Fall on the Road, Bruce Cockburn

I’d originally planned to append annotations as the whyfore of each selection, but you know what? I’m tired. I will, however, say—

A) Most are grouped by virtue of sounding physically "similar", ie my usual sort of "…sounds like…" aural collage impulse. But not all of them, since others go together in ways which stem from content, theme, or even origin.

B) Two are from Bill Burke’s imaginary soundtrack to No Vacancy. Can anyone guess which ones they are?

C) Mix #3 might easily be subtitled: "The Triumph of the Earworm". And now that I’ve listened to it several times in quick succession (on High), I truly believe that the "narrator" of You Know My Name is definitely M, rather than Bond. (Though she’s also definitely talking TO Bond.)

Okay, I need to post this and wind down. Really do hope to see some of you soon; if you read this, be sure to pick your seasonal CD in advance.;)

B) - Blue Oyster Cult? Can't spot the other one...

I would like #2, though they are all good. Not in the world's best mood over here either, as I live at the whim of doctors right now, not to mention my own body. I hope you all get better soon & that I will be able to visit soon...and be able to attend the big party on Saturday...
