It's Cold To Be Dead!

The neck’s sort of starting to do me again, which isn’t pleasant so much as scary. Especially because every time it does do me, I get progressively more paranod about it doing me. That’s what I like about thiswhole thing, really (ha ha)—the general impression it leaves you with that you’re weak for feeling pain AND weak for caring, because either might mean that you’re doing it to yourself.
Tonight, Heroes. I get that some people don’t like/get it, and I almost get why…but guess what? Fuck ‘em. This is the purest fun I’ve had in some time, TV-ly speaking. I have no complaints at all, just love for every last one of them: Claire-bear, her Creepy Yet Conflicted Dad, both Peterellis (Peter the Secret Sharer, Nathan the Flying Shark), Niki/Ikin, Micah, D.L. And Hiro, and Ando--Hiro, who’s so happy to learn the version of himself fom the future has a sword, he starts making lightsaber noises while sitting in the passenger-side seat of Ando’s rental car. Even Mole-girl From Across The Hall, Mohinder, Simone and Isaac, who amnages to be snarking even while detoxing cold turkey from longterm heroin abuse. They all both rock and rule. I can’t wait ‘till they have uniforms, or start making up names for themselves. (Claire? "Immaculata", allllll the way.)
I like this show so much, I actually often find myself recasting things like The Departed as Heroes-‘verse offshoots…Colin would be the Confessor, obviously, charming perps into signing their lives away ‘cause they really WANT to, ‘cause they’re his FRIENDS; Billy might be Stamina, powering through on will and grit. Maddie would never know who her baby belonged to ‘till it started looking at her a certain way and persuading her to do things for it, or she only realized it’d been on fire for a while there when she checked the crib and found it burned to shit. And Dignam? Will Queenan gone, he’d just sort of fade away, like he’d never been there at all. People’d look right through him. So when he finally came for Colin, he wouldn’t even have to put those bags on his feet.;)
And how did zombie-day go, you ask? I’d forgotten exactly how boring being on set can be, most ‘specially if you’re A) in full makeup, B) the propane tanks need to be refilled inside the holding area and C) you spend much of the meat of it in a very cold barn full of wet hay, old mice-feces and various other breatheable toxins. Still, Cal and his grandparents had fun, and I had to duck out early because of my neck, so it wasn’t as long as it might have been. Then on Sunday, Steve and I went to see The Prestige. The short version: Yes, it’s all that. However, do not expect a full review here just now, because I’m utterly exhausted.
And that’s that, thus far. I leave you with an oldish meme, but one I’ve had sitting around for long enough that I think it merits inclusion.

In other news, NaNoWriMo beckons, and I think I'm definitely going with the big push on Dark Is Better. If nothing else, at least I might get a few more salable stories out of it.
Okay. C’est la. Bed.

Date: 2006-10-31 08:07 pm (UTC)Nothing better happen to Ando, at least not soon. Hiro needs a "normal" friend to help keep him on track. And last night is likely to be a bit of a "Uncle Ben" moment for Hiro, that this isn't just a great big game where he's automatically going to win.
I'm willing to bet that the show's creators had to fight to get Hiro and Ando's dialogue subtitled, rather than done in English. And how cool is it that the subtitles float around the character speaking, not just slapped on the bottom of the screen?
And I love Nathan's whole "OK, I can fly, but I doubt it'll win me any votes" attitude.
