Head Hurts, Deadlines Will Eat Me

It's entirely likely that I'm going tos pend the whole day "recuperating" from getting stinking drunk last night at [livejournal.com profile] strange's Not-Exactly Wedding Shower. It was her, me, some of her friends and the other Rue Morgue girls; we talked inappropriately and loudly about sex 'n' stuff, listed to Curve, and then went to see Snakes on a Plane (inevitably) at the Kingsway. And by the by: It SUCKS. Oh my God, the suck, she hurts from a distance. This is obviously one of those things trying hard for "so bad it's good", but believe me, I don't think anybody involved with this aside from Samuel L. Jackson has much idea of what "good" even means--and since Sam's just there to have fun, like he's loudly informed anybody who asks, he ain't puttin' himself out too far to set them straight. Avoid if at all possible, use tongs and protetive gear if somehow forced to approach.

Bon Cop, Bad Cop, OTOH, is really fun. I split my sides a couple of times, the action is tight and weirdly realistic (must be that Canadian influence; somebody in the back was actually thinking: "Ya know, if you jump on a moving car and then get shot off it while travelling at high speed, you are going to fuck yourself up pretty badly. So let's work with that!"), Feore and Huard have chemistry, Huard gets to do a scene in which he cries and still looks manly, Feore's "sister" gets a sex scene in which she screws Huard into the mattress while yelling: "Oh GOD, vive le Quebec Libre!" The hockey shit is ridiculous rather than intrusive, and I can even deal with the dead or soon-to-be-dead people all being named things like "Buttman" and "Flapcheeks". A good time was had by all.

Other than that, the weekend was pretty much a write-off (ha ha), especially in terms of--say--writing. Saturday, we bought some chairs; later, we cleaned the bathroom. I bought a copy of the collected Point Pleasant on DVD, so I can get my googly-eyed female Antichrist fix. Sunday there was shopping and, as noted before, inebriation. Now I have to write extended versions of two RM reviews, and get that final rewrite of By Night over to the director before his brain explodes. He wanted me to make it holy water that our protagonists get threatened with rather than cement in the clinch, for those who care, but I talked him down to acid (since there's absolutely no other supernatural aspect to vampirism anywhere else in the narrative)--did my job, in other words. What he does with the result is his own affair.

Oh, and the other director/producer, the one who's interested in No Vacancies, also wants to go ahead. Energy! If I can keep this pace up, 2006 might be the year I finally explode myself, in a GOOD way.;)

Saw Bon Cop Bad Cop last night with some friends and it freaking rocked! Great script, great actors, I loved the whole look of the movie, one of the best movies of the summer.

Final big laugh was right at the end of the credits: "Filmed on location in Montreal and Ottawa". A film half-set in Toronto, and they use a stand-in city!

Ha!

That's hilarious. Guess real T.O. wasn't clean enough for them (or way too expensive/filled with runaway shoots for them, more likely...).

Anyhow, so glad you liked it! I mean, I WANTED to like it, and I still thought it was startlingly good. I notice eye hated it, probably because NOW--will wonders ever cease?--actually gave it a good review.;)
