Wow!

"Spectral Evidence" just won the ChiZine Short Story Contest. Since I didn't even vaguely think I was going to place, this counts as a pretty (damn) good way to start the day...not least because judge Neil Gaiman had the deciding vote in a two-way tie.;)

[livejournal.com profile] cristalia: Congratulations. I seriously thought it would be you, and I really want to read "Deer's Heart" now. I apologize, but how amazing is it for both of us to finish that high out of 307 entries? Toronto rocks!

And now, I gotta go to work.

Wonderful! Big dancing Conga-Rats to you and Leah.

WHOOOO! Screw anyone who's been down on your writing! YEAH! ;-)

I hope Cal is well. Tell him I miss him, though I am sure he won't care...

Oh man, I know he does.;) He'd even say so, if he was saying more than: "Go!"

Wow! Congratulations!

[identity profile] handful-ofdust.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks a bunch! I'm still just...stunned. Really does show it pays to write to deadlines/guidelines sometimes, I guess.

[identity profile] leahbobet.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. I sorta did the happy high-five dance around the apartment at 2am when I got the e-mail, going: "Good Guys win!". I'm sooooooo glad. :D

I'll toss you "Deer's Heart" in .rtf if I can have "Spectral Evidence"... :)

[identity profile] handful-ofdust.livejournal.com 2006-07-27 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
You're on! (Though I think this is possibly the first time I've been referred to as one of the "good guys".);)

[identity profile] marinwood.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations - I can't wait to read it!

[identity profile] handful-ofdust.livejournal.com 2006-07-27 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It'll be e-published in the October issue of The Chiaroscuro. Naturally, I'll post the link when that happens.

Awesome, Gemma!! :D Congrats.

[identity profile] handful-ofdust.livejournal.com 2006-07-27 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Considering I almost didn't submit at all, due to personal issues of idiocy, it's a pretty welcome wake-up call.

Congratulations!!!

Oh, that's fabulous! Add more to the pile of congratulations!

[identity profile] handful-ofdust.livejournal.com 2006-07-27 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
I've been trying to get into ChiZine for a while, and this is the single best way I could have ever though of doing so. Thanks so much for the well-wishes.

External Validation!! Congrats.

Late to the party

[identity profile] seward.livejournal.com 2006-08-16 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, congratulations. :) I'm looking forward to reading the story! (And, yes, you beat out mine. I knew it wasn't going to win, though. *grin*) I know what you mean about not expecting the story to place. When I got my email last year, I screamed so loudly my husband thought the cat had climbed me again.

*hands over the torch* Good for roasting marshmallows. *nods*

Susan, wot won in 2005

Thanks so much! BTW, I loved "Demons of the Desert"...subtle, compact, really effortless(-seeming). Everything I'm not.;) You rock, lady.

Thank you! =) Man, you have no idea how many times that story got rejected and rewritten. The best feedback I got during that period was, "This is great. Is it fantasy or horror?" *thumps head on desk* (I'd intended it as SF.)

Hey, don't knock yourself. You beat out over 300 other people. :) Do you have anything else published anywhere?

Two books of short stories, both available on Amazon.com. I've also sold or placed seven things so far this year.

Holy.... I'm not sure I've even got that many shorts finished. Wow. Am very impressed! What are the titles?
