The Kraken, Summoned, Rises

So yeah...once again, almost an entire week. The odd part is that it's not as though I've been doing all that much, really: Yes, Cal's been ill and fitful; yes, I briefly got the same thing myself (but then got over it fairly quick). Today we discovered he has a genuine ear infection, necessitating Amoxil three times a day, which explains his otherwise uncharacteristic whininess and tantrums.
Otherwise, it's pretty much been med and Steve attempting to settle into a new routine now that he's officially "working from home", me working out a lot, reading many books (The Red Queen by Margaret Drabble, which has sold me on the idea that the single worst way to die may well be getting nailed inside a rice chest and left there for several days while you slowly suffocate; Blondel's Song and The Inklings--and WOW, were C.S. Lewis and friends a massive bunch of geeks; The Blood Knight by Greg Keyes; The Grand Tour by Patricia Wrede and...that other chick, sequel to Sorcery and Cecilia), seeing many movies (most recently, Boo and Syriana). I finished my materials-updating and put my stuff for next week in to be copied. I finally watched the last four episodes of Rome, plus lots of Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. Didn't answer much email. Slept a lot. Sounds just a bit like a vacation, doesn't it?;)
Still, all good things must come to an end. Soon I'll find out about the ultimate fate of my Chiaroscuro Short Story Contest entry, and I need to get cracking on cranking something new out for Sandra Kasturi at Kelp Queen, in hopes of having it published and salable by Rue Morgue's Festival o' Fear. OTOH, all in all, this year really has turned out to be fairly good so far in terms of both production and placement: I've written three things and also had three things hit "print" (though not the same three things, exactly). Las in the line-up is Landscape with Maps & Legends: Dead Voices on Air, currently up as part of Suspect Thoughts vol. 17. If you're interested, you can find it here: http://www.suspectthoughts.com/files.htm.
And--that's all for now. Like I said, real work (and Real-World work) awaits. See yez.
