Finished "Trap-Weed", after two solid weeks of work. It's almost 8,000 words long (but that will change); I need to do a pruning pass and get it looking as good as possible, then send it off. And better yet, Steve is still working on his own story! He's maybe two sections away from being done. Completely different from mine; SF, epistolary/documentarian. I'm so excited at the prospect of both of us being able to submit to the same venue as separate entities, it sort of ridiculous.

At any rate. In catch-up duty, I notice I never actually linked to my ChiZine.com review of Panos Cosmatos's Beyond the Black Rainbow here, so if you're interested, take a look (http://www.chizine.com/beyond_the_black_rainbow.htm#.UIluFo7FXoA). Which reminds me that I probably need to start thinking about The Next Thing, column-wise, since next week is going to be genuinely insane, what with Hallowe'en followed by World Fantasy. I have my schedule mostly all worked out (panel on Friday, reading at noon on Saturday, plus various parties), and although there was a shaky moment or two where it looked like Steve's parents wouldn't quite be able to take over Cal-sitting duties from Mom, we're hopefully past it. So on we go, and on we go.

Next on the docket: Figuring out what to work on for the immediate future. It really should be "Scarlet Town", but it's been a while since I've looked at that, so I should probably print it out and try to figure out where the holes could best be plugged. I have a bad urge to make it "Vigil-Saga", though, probably brought on by the fact that Kieron Gillen's run on Journey Into Mystery has just come to an end, leaving kid-Loki forcibly reconciled with his adult self in a fairly heartbreaking way. Writing some hottish Jotun/Aesir/Jotun-who-thinks-he's-Aesir threesome action might not help, per se, but it probably wouldn't hinder.

Otherwise...still watching Night Creatures off and on, because that's becoming a bit of a comfort movie for me. I bought and read a YA novel called Long Lankin, based on the ballad, which plays like M.R. James for tweens. And I'm also finally making my way through The Evil of Frankenstein, which seems thus far like nothing so much as Hammer's attempt to ret-con the bad Baron out of being the total douchenozzle they made him in Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed. At the moment, he's telling his new assistant/fanboy Hans the highly edited version of his first attempt at creating life, aka That One Which Makes Me Look Great and Everybody Else Like an Asshole, with time out here and there to sigh sadly and ask, of nobody in particular: "Why won't they all just leave me alone?" Um...because you keep paying people to steal other people's corpses and then making monsters out of them, Vic? Just sayin'.

Okay, back to it...
