Steve, Cal, Mom, Dad and I went up on the Go train with Steve Snr. Cal elected to wear his monkey-suit the whole way, then decided he hated it and had to be literally forced back into it in order to go out trick-or-treating. The "Haunted Graveyard" house was up again, taking donations for charity, and Cal stood there entranced, jumping up and down and sing/screaming "This Is Hallowe'en". He got a pretty good haul, most of it from afternoon trick-or-treating at Surrey Place, and went down easy(ish).

That was probably the last time I'm going to see my Dad for a while ("Maybe ever", the disheartening part of my brain whispers), but I think it was a good exercise, all 'round. He got to see and experience Cal, to form an attachment to him; he also got to see that I have a life I'm settled in, which takes up 90% of my time--that it's rewarding but strenuous, and I am mostly reconciled to the fact that it has to be kept up, at all costs. That for all my failings, in other words, I am now an adult, just like him. I hope that helps...and I hope I do see him again, someday. Before the end.

Today, meanwhile--in and between doing hordes of laundry (Cal peed his bed again last night, so we need to check in on him before going to sleep ourselves, this time), buying food, etc.--I have to embark on NaTwoThirdsOfANoWriMo. The second part of Tree of Bones, Book TWo, is called "Savage Weapons" (as in: "Even now in Heaven, there were angels carrying...") The good part is that, once again, about a third of the section has already been written, and that since I've spent time establishing a lot of background in Book One, I think stuff can move faster overall (ha!); the only new location I have to describe is Camp Pink, and that should be over with semi-quickly. The bad part, as ever, is that I'm juggling an immense cast, and need to be stringent with giving a bunch of them spectacular yet permanent exits. So yeah, all that...

Okay. I need to go downstairs, get some Coldwater Tide and some coffee (back on that train, yes, at least for the duration), put in some pants to be cuffed, and get to it. But I'll be breaking intermittently throughout for other stuff--the rest of those music posts, for example. Ta.
