...and Steve's going to be voting Conservative, pretty much entirely (so far as I can tell) on the gay marriage issue. Because he thinks he's somehow protecting our marriage by, I don't know, taking potential child-care money out of the mouth of our son. We've had three huge arguments about this, all boiling down to: "You think I'm an idiot, don't you?"--no, honey; I think you're behaving idiotically, but lay that by. Oh, and when you're annoyed by the idea of the government daring to reduce a union your uncle blessed to the status of a "mere" legal contract between two consenting adults, please do be aware that (lovely church wedding notwithstanding) that's exactly how I see it, always have, and always will.

Me, I'm voting NDP, because A) voting strategically started leaving a bad taste in my mouth back when fucking Harris was elected and B) I seriously don't think it's going to matter even a single, tiny bit. Come Tuesday, we're waking up to a Conservative government, because people in general are morons who think there's a point to who's in office beyond the obvious (ie, their stated platforms). Because people want to "punish" the powerful, and have no problem with the inherent dichotomy of doing it by fucking themselves. Because people would rather have an insultingly minimal stipend "up front" than try and see if government-run child-care might actually work; yes, they'd probably screw it up in parts, much like health-care, but you know? I also like having health-care, which we soon won't anymore.

Aaaaanyway. It'll all be over by tonight, in both senses of the phrase.

The weekend = busy, but not creatively so. I did a fair bit of damage control in terms of managing money, since we won't be getting any again until the 31st. I bought two new pairs of shoes, because my athletics were killing me every time I worked out, which isn't good. I saw my Mom's new play, Homeward Bound, which will be at the Alumni Theatre for the next (three?) weeks--she's brilliant in it, though I'm obviously partial.

In other "news", I bought The 40-Year Old Virgin (Best Buddy Act!); rented and watched Lord of War, Ab-Normal Beauty (the Pang brothers' new film, a psychological thriller with no supernatural aspects, gorgeously put across and quite emotionally wrenching), The Transporter 2 (mainly distinguishe by the fact that its soundtrack includes that song they sampled on the Sin City trailer, the one that's not actually in the movie anywhere...I want it desperately); watched the first installment of Bleak House on Masterpiece Theatre, taped BSG but didn't watch it; cleaned up a lot of drool. Cal is running around in an insane lather these days, apparently happy but functionally crazy, which makes it difficult to do anything of much significance except chores: The usual excuse, but it doesn't change. Still, I keep making myself work out, if nothing else.

For most people, I gather, it's a problem of coming up with ideas. For me, it's a problem with acting on them. And yes, there's school/work, social shit, etc.--but like I said, that doesn't change, or isn't likely to anytime soon. I have to just get the fuck over it, get back to the grindstone. If Zane can build a mini-empire on the stuff she writes, what damn problem do I have?

P.S.: A belated Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] rustler and [livejournal.com profile] maverick4oz, who keep their fandom in tip-top shape. All the best to both of you, many more, and may you get everything you want (within reason).;)

I totally agree with you on everything you said politics-wise. I've been saying the same thing all damned week. So we're going to have to put up with going backwards for a while, that doesn't make me happy but I better not hear as much as a peep out of anyone who voted Conservative but doesn't like the consequences. Because if people are going to through equality and the environment away just for 2% lower GST than maybe they deserve what they're gonna get. I just feel sorry for us, who didn't want it, knew better but will still have to suffer through the fall-out.

An amusing note: The fiance and I were talking politics on Saturday, and I mentioned that if he voted Conservative I just wouldn't be able to go forth with the wedding. Thankfully he's an NDPer, but that's how offended I am by the Conservatives in general, I can't be around a card carrying Conservative without it devolving into an all out screaming match.

I believe this is what you want: 'Cells' by The Servant.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, dude.

And hey, at least your whole government isn't totally in thrall to wacko religious conservative fundies. But you should still whack Steve upside the head. *g*

I still have no idea how I'm voting, and I'm going out to do it in under an hour. But it sure as hell won't be Conservative.
