750 more words added. I feel like I'm hovering on the edge of being able to finish this fucker, which would be very nice indeed. OTOH, it's snowing again--a-freakin'-gain--and I had to take Cal home early from St. Mike's, because he suddenly started puking and kept on going until nothing was coming up but bile. When I got there, he seemed limp and white, but the minute I got him home he perked up considerably. Now, at least one more puke later, he's polished off an entire bag of popcorn, drunk a glass or so of water, and is watching Treehouse while jumping feverishly up and down. What will this lead to? More puke, is my immediate thought.

The curse of Ash Wednesday, I guess. Which I naturally didn't even know it was, until I got to school and realized everybody had blurry grey crosses smudged on their foreheads.

Meanwhile, last night we tuned in on No Ordinary Family, that dead show walking, and A) figured out within seconds that it was a repeat but B) ended up watching it anyways. I've become stupidly attached to the romance between geeky Dr Katie and Formerly Evil Will/Joshua, the right-hand man/adopted son/medical guinea-pig of our suave main villain; in this ep. he's ill and detoxing for most of the action, but shoots himself up with super-juice just in time to keep a shapeshifting sub-villain (Not-Mystique, I like to call her) from breaking Katie's neck. This takes on far more of a charge when you retroactively realize Will/Joshua was actually raised to consider this woman his sort-of sister, though I think they may also have done their share of "hey, we're not blood"-type fooling around. Dysfunctional supervillain family dynamics, lurking in the background of an Afterschool Special world.;)

Okay, back on the (sea-)horse. I have a fair deal of gross stuff to describe, and not a lot of wordage left to do it in.

One of my favourite films, that.

It's fun, like a lot of Bollywood films. Just amused me that when I posted the story's title on Facebook, a couple of different people assumed I was talking about taxes rather than nautical debris.

Most people don't know the difference between flotsam and jetsam, either.

I spoke to one person once -- I forget how the subject matter arose -- who thought that jetsam was animated by Hannah Barbera.

"I think you mean the Jetsons".

Anyway, the film is spelled "Lagaan", IIRC (the DVD stack is in the other room and I'm too lazy to check).

Yeah, that too! Does a double "a" count for nothing?;)

(Actually, the guy who commented initially was, I believe, Indian, so perhaps it does count for nothing. Anyhow, explaining didn't take very long, so...[shrugs].)

(And I did even know about the spelling difference--all the same, I still think of the film)

nautical debris

Aha! I knew if I lazily waited around, refusing to crack a dictionary or to hit Google, eventually I would find out what "lagan"--your lagan, not Lagaan--meant. And I was right.

LOL--your subject line. I have to say that every time I see your posts about this story, my first thought is of that movie (which I have yet to see, but I have a great hit song from it).
