1,516 words today, taking us to the end of "[Anasazi]" section two. This is coming together far faster than I expected, especially since my thousand words of research per 500 words of work ratio isn't exactly slacking off. Today, it was deep space travel, inner-ear damage, tinnitus and some in-reserve stuff about the Nazi Ahnenerbe Organization, their pseudo-archaeology wing. Very Mike Mignola. I wonder how far I can get into section three tomorrow, considering it'll be runrunrun day...

Tonight's Avatar: The Last Airbender DVD, meanwhile, brings us to the end of Book One ("Water"). I'm enjoying the heck out of everything, but particularly its welcome, startlingly consistent attention to continuity. The Blue Spirit reveal fall-out. The brief tour of every place the Gaang has been during Zuko and Uncle Iroh's equally brief team-up with Black Leather Bounty-hunter Chick (and her massive anteater), which includes Auntie Wu the fortuneteller coming onto Iroh. ("Hey, handsome. Want to know your future?") The perfection of the war balloon, which is obviously going to eventually horribly backfire on Old Mad Scientist Guy and his glider-riding, wheelchair-bound son. Etc.

And then there are just all the little things: "No, wait, come back! My friends need to suck on those frogs!" Zuko literally breathing fire in impatience...how do any of those guys make it through adolescence alive? Or Iroh singing a fairly sweet, yearning Chinese-style song about "Four Seasons for Love" while the other officers waltz during "Music Night", and Zuko sulks in his cabin. ("No, Uncle! I will not play the [whatever]-horn!")

And I hear "Earth" only gets better. Can't...effin'...wait.;)

Okay, off to do some chores and take Cal to the bathroom. Don't wreck the place while I'm gone.

Tsungi. Which Iroh bought (at a discount!) back in that episode with the pirates.

I love that show so much.

By the end of this, I'm betting we probably get to see everybody at least two more times, right? The pirates...Black Leather Bounty-hunter Chick...the glider-wheelchair guy...the Mad KIng...Auntie Wu...

It's not like I'll be horribly unhappy if we don't see everybody. But I'm sure not going to be surprised to see anybody, from now on!

Without spoilers, I will merely agree that no show worth its flying bison should introduce an awesome cast of characters just to discard them completely in future. And a viewer should keep in mind that given the amount of awesome put onscreen in the first season, there may be more to come in future.

". I'm enjoying the heck out of everything, but particularly its welcome, startlingly consistent attention to continuity."

This is one of my reasons for adoring AIRBENDER also -- the continuity is simply perfect, much more carefully controlled and consistent than I have seen in much more famous and well funded shows.

Care for one's craft, attention to detail, is not a product of budget, but of workmanship.
