New Review

Fine Book of Tongues review from Sean McLachlan, aka MidListWriter on Blogspot, here (http://midlistwriter.blogspot.com/2010/04/review-book-of-tongues.html). Being a Civil War buff and historian, he rightly points out my blood-drunk gay porno horse opera is riddled with historical inaccuracies; in my defense, I can only claim that I did actually write a whole Apologia pointing this same sad fact out in fair detail, which hopefully will eventually work itself into the paperback version.;)

Otherwise, am now very securely in that floaty, drunken-feeling portion of the Day After the (Mainly Sleepless) Night Before. Still hammering here and there on "The Shrines". I guess I'll just go on that way 'til I fall over; usually works.

"...Tarantino never created anything as original as this."

You should ask if you could put that on your paperback. and to be fair to yourself (Jeez, you ever?) he did say :

"occasional historical inaccuracy detectable only by obsessive students of the Civil War"

Now that is one hella great review.

He said only an obsessive geek would care about the inaccuracies, and furthermore, after describing himself as just such a geek, he then said he didn't care about them! He loved the book. It's a great review!

I was very happy that the stuff I got right seemed to make up for what I got wrong, yeah. Thanks.;)

But isn't it an AU anyway? Nobody's busting Naomi Novik's chops because some of the events in the Napoleonic Wars turned out a little differently, because dragons. Oh, well, good review, all the same.

Yeah, magic and all. I think it's a good point, though, just like Steve has a good point when he takes me to task about the equally blatant geographical errors. I mean, at least in the second book I can specify people are simply teleporting all over the place, as opposed to somehow riding from Missouri through California to Texas, then Arizona and New Mexico, within a ridiculously short period of time. "I just wasn't paying attention" never sounds too good as an excuse, amirite?

I'm reading it now. So far, I'm loving it. You have an amazing way with language. I showed it to my writers' group and there's a clamour for who gets it next.

Just wait until they meet Yancey. That's an altogether different cookie.

Glad you're likin' her. And I swear to God, I'm almost done Chapter Four--almost.

Is Yancey in the next book?

She is! I really felt it was imperative for his own development to introduce Chess to at least one woman he couldn't just dismiss as a bitch or a whore. Of course, later on, I'm going to sucker-punch him with at least two more...

That was me, obviously. Or...not so.

Just saw you were doing that on your I-pick-up-bones post--very cool, BTW--and had to shake myself, I was grinning so hard!

Aw man, stayed up way too late to finish it last night and am now staring at my own manuscript with a cold and unfavorable eye. Doesn't help that Tepeyollotl's making a brief appearance in it.

Great book, Gemma. Can't wait for the next one. :)

Cool! And thank you very much...now I know you're waiting, it'll make me work a little faster.

This is history turned on its head with its chest ripped open and its heart offered to the gods. I look forward to the sequel.

Now that should be a cover blurb!

Ooh yeah. Actually, I should probably email the link over to CZP, while I'm thinking about it.
