Put the various bits and pieces in basic order for the rest of Chapter Two, but haven't gotten hugely further with it, possibly due to discomfort; annoying. I did, however, finish the first of my Book of Tongues Cast of Characters posts for Music at Midnight. Predictably, it's about Chess--and, less predictably, his Ma as well. You can find it here (http://musicatmidnight-gfiles.blogspot.com/2010/02/book-of-tongues-cast-of-characters-i.html).

(Toward the first, off the top of my head—)
Amanda Palmer, "Runs in the Family"
I say it runs in the family, this famine
That carries me to such great lengths
To open my legs up for anyone who'll have me
Consonant, "Are You Done?"
The detox can resume now from the carbonated blood
Of what felt just like love
Are you done?
Are you done with me?
The Devil's Interval, "The Bonfire Carol"
Judas was a redheaded man
Human Sexual Response, "Pound"
Because I'm in one piece, you can hold me in one place
Because I'm in one piece, you can hold me down
Iron & Wine, "Arms of a Thief"
The daughter of a lawyer told the fallen priest
It's a cold, cold place in the arms of a thief
And tapping at the arrow in her heel, she said
Leave me alone, but just don't leave me here, all right?
The Klezmatics, "An Undoing World"
Don't cry out or cling in terror—darling, that's a fatal error
Clinging to a somebody you thought you knew was yours
Dispossession by attrition is the permanent condition
That this wretched modern world endures
Mission of Burma, "Comes Undone"
I want to undo you
See what's inside
The Mountain Goats, "No Children"
And I hope when you think of me, years down the line
You can't find one good thing to say
My Favorite, "Le Monster"
The halls were crawling with vampires, 'cause after your shelf life expires
You're not a kid, you're a monster, monster, monster
Norma Waterson, "Red Wine and Promises"
I don't need nobody helping me
I don't need no bugger's arm around me
Poe, "Not a Virgin"
I've been open
And I've been closed like a book
And burned down like a written sin
PJ Harvey, "Angelene"
Prettiest mess you ever seen
Love for money is my sin
Any man calls, I'll let him in
Tom Waits, "A Good Man Is Hard to Find"
Only strangers sleep in my bed
And my favorite words are goodbye
And my favorite color is red
I may have inflicted some of these on you in previous mixes or e-mails, so ignore whatever you've already got. But because it's a classic and you should have it on principle—
John Roberts & Tony Barrand, "Maggie May"
She robbed so many sailors and dosed so many whalers
And she'll never roam down Lime Street anymore

Date: 2010-02-18 02:42 am (UTC)I loved the character sketch, especially of Oona. It would be nice if she would pop up in a future short story...
:D
And.. damn you woman, for making me drool in public! Then again, I shouldn't have opened those URLs. /end Stewie voice.

Date: 2010-02-18 06:03 am (UTC)Yeah, well...like I said, I want to give Oona a bit more of her due and proper later in Rope..., if possible. She's half of Chess, after all.;)
