A Book of Tongues: THUD

Words added: 769. Chapter thus far: 6,500+. Whole chapter: ...over 9,000. Agh! Though I know at least 1,000 of that is notes which will be consolidated, cut and fall by the wayside, which should make me feel better. Man, what the hell. Am I simply incapable of doing anything quickly anymore? Was I ever?

This brief freak-out brought to you by the numeral 12 (for midnight, which it is now officially after) and the substance snot (as in what's currently making me want to shoot myself in the head, just to release the pressure). I'm sure I'll feel better in the morning, once I've dragged Cal to school and my own ass home again...

In other news, I watched my first official Torchwood episode (besides Day Five of Children of Earth, that is). "Greeks Bearing Gifts", Season One. Are they all like that?

WHOA. One chapter is 9K words long? I'm thinking you're going to have to break that up, don't you think?

Or get a bigger boat. Hyuk.

Ugh, please don't even give me that option, or I know I'll end up taking it.;) But no, actually--considering that the previous chapter was over 10,000 words long, I think I can get away with having two of those in a row, if I can then manage to make the other chapters all around 3,000/4,000/5,000. And I think I can, damn it!

Torchwood episodes are of highly variable quality, I don't consider that to be one of the better ones.

Really? Because I quite liked it. Yeah, it has the usual thematic problems, ie: (Welsh accent) "Oh my God, people are terrible! But oh my God, so is everybody/thing else in the universe!" Nevertheless, I liked "Mary", who was equally terrifying in both her alienness and her humanity; I liked the focus on Tosh, who I take it isn't often focused on; I liked Jack's utter ruthlessness at the end, and how it made him very close kin to things like "Mary". And there was at least a tiny bit of hope left in the box, a concept they often seem to neglect.

I like Tosh, but I didn't think this episode really did her justice, and the fact that "Mary" turned out to be actually evil and not just alien I thought was a bit of a cop out.

Of the first season, I really liked "Small Worlds", "They Keep Killing Suzy", and "Ghost Machine". For Newton's sake don't watch "Cyberwoman", easily the worst episode of TW ever.

Actually, "Cyberwoman" is one of the worst hours of TV ever.

I've heard that, and reading the Wikipedia synopsis certainly didn't disabuse me of that impression.

Well, remember, mileage may vary. Everyone sees things differently.

In my not-so-humble opinion, that's one of the weaker eps. of Torchwood. Have you seen 'Meat' yet? That one will rip your guts out.
