Fu Manchu, Why Won't You Behave?

I guess it’s sort of predictable that even at the age of nine months, my son is no fool; inconvenient, but predictable. It makes him harder to deal with, yet far easier to respect.
Meanwhile, yesterday was my first day back at work--one class, which fit the bill. It looks as though I’m already going to have to rejigger my course outline a tad, but it can certainly be done. The students were reasonably interested, particularly one girl who came and asked me questions afterward, which bodes well. And I only had to send one guy away for being heinously late (they’re making us tell people who come in after fifteen minutes that they might as well just leave, because they’re officially absent; suits me), and he can make the class up on Friday if he so desires, in the same room. So if he doesn’t, that’s very definitely his problem.
Did the big yoga class, which I needed, but now my back feels like I’ve been kicked. This might have something to do with A) my period and B) the fact that I spent Sunday night obsessing about Monday morning. Also watched
green_trilobite’s legendary copy of Drums of Fu Manchu, a Republic serial in which the Bad Doctor is the single msot cool and competent character (aside from one of two genuine Asian actors, a stoic museum curator who resists him to the last). Particularly odious was the hero, a guy I kept calling "Mr Moron", though he bore an amusing resemblance to my friend Jason Taniguchi in those scenes that required him to imitate Fu Manchu (who had temporarily borrowed his face). Finally, this counts as the only "suspense" story I’ve ever seen in which somebody gets saved from certain death by falling under a couch.
Steve seems to be enjoying his time at home with Cal, which is good, since I now have to hunker down on those POV/Montage pieces. There are the usual projects pending outside of that, of course…I still haven’t really checked the proofs for Thrillers 2, and I really need to look at getting drapes for the living room window, especially in this heat and blazing afternoon light. But I finally cashed my Wildside Press cheque, and celebrated by getting a DVD copy of The Haunting of Hell House, the movie which sidelong inspired my "Pen Umbra"/"The Narrow World" character Carraclough Devize. It still both rocks and sucks, as I remember—it has perhaps the world’s stupidest single denouement, for example; almost a punchline, one worthy of Steve himself. Fittingly.
All right, done. I’m sure you were all on tenterhooks.;)
