It Was A Very Good Year

I was just informed that I can now blog about co-winning The Vaike and Erich Rannu Fund for Writers of Speculative Literature's first official prize for fiction, earlier this morning. The winning entry on my part was "Hell Friend"; my co-winner is Nick Stokes, who won for "As Promised". (Some of my poetry also got short-listed, which is nice...and Nick and I now get to split $500.00 CDN, which is even nicer.;))

The Rannu fund was established by Sandra Kasturi and Brett Savory in honour of the 30th wedding anniversary of Sandra’s mother and step-father, and their contributions to the arts and education both in Canada and Estonia. The fund will continue to offer two $500.00 awards per year, one for fiction and one for poetry, to writers of speculative fiction of any nationality/place of residence, at any stage in their career. Check it out!

P.S.: Did you know that Amanda Palmer's "Strength Through Music" begins with a huge sample of Strindberg & Helium? "I have been working all day over these hellish flames..."

Congratulations! Yay, you.

Did you know that Amanda Palmer's "Strength Through Music" begins with a huge sample of Strindberg & Helium?

I have been wondering what that came from.

Yeah! And yeah, that's one of my favorite S & H sketches, so I'm pretty happy. Beyond the obvious, I mean.;)

Us too! (I mean, here in the wanderer's hut, we love that skit--the line we 're always quoting is "It's a sign I'M SURE")

That, and which is the sketch where Helium says "Heelllllllll"--we like quoting that, too :-)

Congratulations, by the way!

It's so wonderfully quotable: "I had forgotten that even a female saint is a woman...that is to say, man's enemy." "Women!"

Oh, you would love Strindberg & Helium! Or rather... maybe I should say, *I* love Strindberg & Helium.

I just wish they'd made more. Man, I'd pay them to, if I knew where to send the money.

Same here!

For you!

Thanks! It does indeed feel like the universe is giving me fluffy pink cupcakes.

Congratulations! I'm going to pick up a bottle of soda tomorrow to toast you and your fellow award winner.

Regrettably, I didn't get out the door to the post office yet. Tomorrow! Definitely!

Happy soda! And no problem, man...though I'll certainly look forward to it, when you do get it posted.;)

Yeah, I'll have to check him out.;)

Teeeechnically....

Technically, 2 of your poems got shortlisted (they didn't receive honourable mention)--a small distinction (but probably important--the honourables got a bit of moolah, the shortlists didn't, alas).

"Tantalus, Reaching Upward" and "Jar of Salts" were the ones the judges liked in particular.

Because I am annoyingly anal... : )

Congrats again, babe. Much deserved!

S.
