Strange Happiness

I'm weirdly pleased, this morning, to discover there's no possible way I could ever have applied for the writer-in-residence job at the Judith Merrill Collection and hoped to be given it, since one of the primary criteria is: "Must have published at least five novels or short story collections", which I just haven't. So I don't need to feel bad about there being only a week left, and can just go back to doing what I was already doing.

In other news: Jim Emerson, just STFU about The Dark Knight, okay? You don't like it, we get it, great, move on--it's not the end of human civilization, and even if it were, you're hardly important or interesting enough to save us from ourselves. The only good thing to come out of any of this crap you've been posting for roughly the last million years is the thread in which you challenged TDK fans to explain what they DID like so much about it, and people actually stepped up--intelligently and ably, I might add! So go find something you like, and leave us alone: Your work here is done.

Who is this Jim Emerson, and what could he possibly have against The Dark Knight? O.O

Runs a blog called Scanners, which links off of Roger Ebert's homepage. I actually respect him as a critic, but he needs to get over A) it and B) himself. I mean, back when all he could talk about was how much HE liked No Country for Old Men, there were a few people who begged to differ, and he didn't go all Medieval on their asses. I think it's the whole received wisdom/perceived zeitgeist thing, but there's not a lot I respond less positively to than a sore loser or winner.

Yeah, if not for that novels requirement I would have also felt obliged to take a swing at it. And it would have been really impractical right now for me (first year of new dayjob), so perhaps that's best all around.

ACK, WHAT?

Oh, wait a minute! You weren't even vaguely talking about Jim Emerson! You were talking about the Merrill!

...never mind.;)

...oh, bleh. Yes. That'd be why I was confused there.

Never minding. *g*

You are still seeing Emerson? Damn you. I haven't had a [livejournal.com profile] scannersblog post pop up on my flist in months.

god, I love LJ's RSS "ability". If I can figure out how to do RSS feeds on facebook, it'll be one more reason for me to ditch this taco stand...

Re LJ's scannersblog feed--you know, neither have I! I actually had to seek it our myself, and my reward was to be annoyed, if not offended. That'd be so much more convenient without the middleman.
