Tuesday I said goodbye to agincourtgirl, who by now is in London with her husband; last night I was forced to forego BodyCombat in favor of A) a St. Paul's School Christmas Pageant and B) the ChiZine Publications launch, where I picked up my sock-monkey hat and a few extra copies of "Every Angel" (one earmarked for you, xterminal), then drank and talked the night away...more of the latter than the former, though, because I am lame and old. Tuesday night had ended with a magical snowstorm, so there was snow eveywhere; the air was crisp and clear, and I found I didn't even mind my incredibly inept taxi driver, who overshot Markham and forced me to walk from College to Bathurst.

OTOH, I kind of needed the time alone, because this followed an evening of bad childrens' versions of many, many carols (they scheduled the JKs to go on eleventh out of thirteen scheduled performances, which...wouldn't have been my choice. By the time they finally got perform, Cal was so spinny he did nothing but flail while his EA literally held him up, clutching a tank in one hand and a plastic turtle in the other) and at least one utterly extraneous-seeming version of Bob Marley's "Jammin'" performed on the steel drum. ("In Heaven, the angels like jammin'," the principal claimed, solemnly, "so we hope you like jammin', too.")

But now it's the day after, and though I kept Cal home in order to let him sleep in as well--he really was good and hammered, but the end of it--I still keep thinking about how much I already miss agincourtgirl. How much it amazes me that she and I have known each other, at this point, for twenty years; yes, I do have people I've known longer, but I wouldn't want to hang around with most of them. She's smart about so many things, a great writer and an amazing autodidact, a self-created anchoress who's finally emerged from her mortar-and-plaster coccoon to brave the wider world, beneficiary of a true Romance and meeting of the minds. And most importantly (to me), she remains the best friend I've ever had.

As I said during our last hug (for now), I wish her everything.;)

I wish you everything too ;)

Super tired right now but will write more real soon. No snow here, but it gets dark even earlier; then again, it's winter equinox in a few days...so...

Sorry about "Jammin'"!!!

Yeah, that whole winter equinox thing'll definitely do you hard, in terms of SAD.;))

As for "Jammin'"--hey, I mainly thought it was funny. Steve just sat there grinding his teeth, though, because he hates reggae and was obviously thinking: "This would never happen in my DAD's church!"

Having experience of really important friends moving to London, I know what you mean. :-)

Well, as she points out, it's hardly the end of the world/the story. But Benet just went to the U.S., man; there's a whole ocean involved, here.

(one earmarked for you, xterminal)

YAY!

(With a sock monkey hat? Because that would be, you know, awesome.)
