Productive Day (For Once)

1,625 words already done on “Crossing the River” (5,000?—sexually predatory holler witch with demon blood meets monster-killing mage/half-sister from another mother with same Hellish genes, in jail! Prison break ensues): This is, as I said yesterday, going surprisingly well, having already spawned both a playlist and a bunch of dialogue/plot twists. Said holler witch, Allfair “Alleycat” Chatwin, is about as fun to inhabit as her Robert Knepperish derivation would suggest, and I’m already running across some really interesting research material involving Abramelin the Mage’s spell squares (to be used by the Michael Scofield/Sam Winchester character, Samaire Cornish, while her more human and less amiable elder sister/monster-killing partner Dionne looks on, glowering).
The playlist, if anybody’s interested, runs thusly—
Entry—Lisa Gerrard
The Devil—PJ Harvey
Five Ten Fiftyfold—Cocteau Twins
Mainstream—Thea Gilmore
Raise the Dead—Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris
Mercy—Duffy
Cry Me a River—The Cliks
Death Letter—Cassandra Wilson
Jesus Forgive Me (For the Things I’m About to Say)—Concrete Blonde
Here Comes That Day –Siouxsie
When Under Ether—PJ Harvey
Natural Blues—Moby
Shining Moon—Cowboy Junkies
Unsung Psalm—Tracy Chapman
Avalanche—Thea Gilmore
The Thinner the Air—Cocteau Twins
Running Up That Hill—Placebo
Irvine—Kelly Clarkson
So yeah, I think this is one of the pieces for Dark Arts, coming together even as we speak. But what are the others? Or better yet, what piece from The Worm… would work best with this particular narrative, thematically?

Date: 2008-09-19 05:09 pm (UTC)I don't know if I can make a useful recommendation based on a playlist, but I have always been fond of "Ring of Fire." Especially if one imagines the title reference performed by Universal Hall Pass.

Date: 2008-09-19 06:04 pm (UTC)Hmmm. Well...This is going to be a first-person piece, I know that much, which would certainly fit with "Ring of Fire"--and God knows, A-Cat's about as unrepentant as the Rhakshasa, which would also work. Then maybe we pair it with "Strange Weight", where you have Mac snarkily refusing to act according to his non-human nature...yeah, I like it. Thanks.;)

Date: 2008-09-19 06:35 pm (UTC)It's a non-album track that used to be available on their website; I picked it up years ago. I really should get more of their music (and maybe, I don't know, pay for it this time . . .).
yeah, I like it. Thanks.
Welcome! Just let me know where I can read "Crossing the River" when it's done.
