Seriously, Though

Jesus, I feel like Hell. My throat hurts, my back hurts, my eyes hurt…I started getting what I can only assume is the same thing Cal had three days ago, and now it’s in full swing. But, nevertheless, with some help from Steve in the boil-down process, I was finally able to get a version of the Montage article done and sent off last night (2:00 AM). Which frees me up—while waiting for the inevitable rewrite notes—to A) write porn and B) talk about other stuff.
First off, a PSA, for those who like making playlists: I’ve been hanging out at http://community.livejournal.com/knivesandlint/, the new (Dark Knight) Joker-centric community, which is replete with icons, fanfiction and—interestingly—fanmixes up the wing-wang. Which is how I ended up compiling a wonderful group of songs that make me (and others) think of the Joker, Joker/Harley Quinn (though, as noted, there sadly is no Harley in the Dark Knight-verse), even Joker/Batman. The roster, below:
The Beginning is the End is the Beginning—Smashing Pumpkins
When You’re Evil—Voltaire
I Can’t Decide—Scissor Sisters
Spite and Malice—Placebo
Apocalypse Please—Muse
Hey Pretty—Poe
death to everyone—Bonnie “Prince” Billy
Funnyman—KT Tunstall
A Lung—the Knife
You Don’t Love Me Yet—Bongwater
Start Wearing Purple—Gogol Bordello
No More Free Will—the Bran Flakes
One More Murder—Better Than Ezra
Color Me Once—Violent Femmes
Penetentiary—Citizen Cope
Dead Finks Don’t Talk—Brian Eno
Texas Funeral—John Wayne
Cocaine Blues—Joaquin Pheonix
Satin in a Coffin—Modest Mouse
Stumble and Pain—Joseph Arthur
The Widow—the Mars Volta
Bloodbeat—Patrick Wolf
Nylon Smile—Portishead
cracker jack—the Starlight Mints
Where is My Mind?—the Coral Sea
Orchestra—the Servant
Ghost of Stephen Foster—Squirrel Nut Zippers
Pierrot the Clown—Placebo
After the Flesh—My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult
Savior—30 Seconds to Mars
There is a Light—Nick Cave
You’re History—Shakespeare’s Sister
I Got My (feat. L’il Wayne)—Static Major
The common elements? Evil cabaret vibe, use of accordion and saloon piano, snippets of weirdly cheerful “Express elevator to Hell, goin’ down!” ambient and polka music, psychedelica, Placebo (certainly ranking as one of the most-referenced groups on fanmixes evah, IMNSHO). I added “Texas Funeral” and “Cocaine Blues” myself, because they sound like (un)Happy Hour in the worst bar in the world, along with “You Don’t Love Me Yet”, "Stumble and Pain”, “Nylon Smile”, “Ghost of Stephen Foster”, “After the Flesh” (hey, the Crow looked like a clown!), “There is a Light” (which was written for Batman Forever, but never used in it) and “You’re History” (because Marcella Detroit is the only person I can think of who sings like Harley should). It’s all good fun, and I got it all for free, too…wow, I’m an outlaw, man.;) About seven years after everybody else on the Internet learning curve, and holding…
More fanfic recs, meanwhile—
“Hercules is Fallen (To Rise No More)” by aliana-iskassa, here (http://aliana-iskassa.livejournal.com/36422.html). Creepy Batman/Joker non-con played as a strangely believable The Dark Knight interstitial.
“My Suicide, Your Homicide” by postalservice, here (http://community.livejournal.com/twotongues/4667.html). Joker back-story gen, some vague woobie-ness, but neat and nasty all the same. Check further down in the comments for a subsidiary link to the facial acid-bath, along much the same lines.;)
"1992" by clownfrogg, here (http://community.livejournal.com/knivesandlint/114604.html). More Joker gen(esis), though far less sentimental, which works for me.
Aaaah. Maybe I do feel a new obsession coming on…
Amended to add: More Joker and Catwoman gen, here (http://community.livejournal.com/knivesandlint/116877.html?#cutid1). Man, these chicks have them down.
