PROJECTS LIST (Partial, Updated)
Sent:
“Marya Nox” (on hold, closed market)
“When I’m Armoring My Belly”, to ChiZine/Leisure Books SSC 2008
“Fin De Siecle”, to Doorways
“The Speed of Pain”, to Cemetery Dance Magazine
Accepted:
“Song Of The Mother”, Not One of Us
“Sown From Salt,” The Harrow
“The Jacaranda Smile”, Apparitions anthology
Currently Working On:
“Hell Friend” (4,000?—More Hungry Ghost Month madness, with a cameo by Grandmother Yau Yan-er): Did lots of research, found first line and planned out first section. Roughly 2,500 words’ worth of notes.
“Strange Weight” (10,000?—Maccabee Roke “origin” story, now with extra ass-kicking nuns and Templars): Chopped this into chapters—five, prospectively, with two already finished—and found the basic structure; word-count up over 9,000. Potentially something to send back to Burning Effigy.
“each thing i show you is a piece of my death” (7,000?—Haunted movie story, now somewhat encapsulating “Kerato-Oblation”): Continually defeated by the epistolary structure of the piece, but I still believe it’s doable, and could be finished sometime this year. Re-read a bunch of M.R. James, for inspiration, which mainly made me want to write a sequel to “…My Belly” and call it “Chorazin”, but whatever.
“Hungry Ghost Mountain” (25,000?, or maybe even a novel—Sequel to “The Narrow World”, now with extra Malaysian shamanism and pelesit-zombies): This is really coming together. Now have most of the plot-points outlined, and a viable first section/chapter to fill in. Main problem is coallating all the various versions of this I’ve stuck inside a million other files, boiling down for parts and glue, then suturing them back together so I can mortar over the cracks adequately enough to let it appear in public.
“The Underneath” (5,000?—Lovecraft-inspired, now with extra non-Euclidean geometry): Deadline for this is probably approaching. I have the whole shape, but am still finding it really difficult to get the right “voice”. Forcing myself to death-march might help, or not.
“Chimera” (5,000?—Meet Beata Callendar, Antichrist-in-waiting; now with extra speed, the Speed of Pain, tattooing under the influence, and a cameo from Ma’ashith Punisher-angel): This is actually Chapter Four of Last Things, the way “Fin De Siecle” is actually its Prologue, but could probably stand on its own in much the same manner. And "counts" as working on Last Things, too, obviously...:P
“History’s Crust” (7,000?—Euwphaim Glouwer and the Sidderstanes vs. the Druirs, Pt. One): Another troublesome piece which spins on a spine of documentation, though it also contains long passages of actual prose. Suddenly snapped awake on me after literal years of dormancy when a single line popped into my head.
“Trouble Again” (5,000?—not-guys from Dog Soldiers working as werewolf bodyguards who can go through any metal detector, living together, mass hysteria): For some reason, I feel this coming up from behind—maybe because it’s the second-most lurid idea I’ve had in a while, and why not complete my Loonie Dreadful trilogy with a gay story to bookend my Lesbian one? Or as you like it.;)
