Silver Lenas Time Again
Jan. 17th, 2008 01:32 amAs ever, highly unlikely I'm going. But according to the list, here's what I saw last year:
*American Gangster, *Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, *Black Snake Moan, Blood and Chocolate, *The Bourne Ultimatum, *Breach, *Day Watch, Dead Silence, Death Proof, Disturbia, *Eastern Promises, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, *Fido, 1408, Ghost Rider, *Grindhouse, *Hannibal Rising, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, *The Host, *Hot Fuzz, *Inland Empire, The Invisible, Live Free or Die Hard, The Messengers, Mr. Brooks, Next, *The Orphanage, *Paprika, *Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Planet Terror, Primeval, The Reaping, Severance, *Silk, Smokin' Aces, Spider-Man 3, *Sunshine, *Superbad, That Beautiful Somewhere, *3:10 To Yuma, 300, *30 Days of Night, Transformers, 28 Weeks Later, *Zodiac.
Pathetic, really...particularly considering what Canadian stuff I saw, I saw because John lent me his Genie DVDs. Most of it I caught up with on DVD, and much of the stuff I opted to see in the theatre fell squarely into the "Steve wanted to see it/I was tired/looked good at the time" part of the equation. But whatever. I've put a star next to the stuff that was genuinely worth my time (though as people may recall, I certainly liked Ghost Rider, Mr. Brooks and Smokin' Aces enough for jazz when I was in them). Maybe I'll know better generally, next go 'round.
Revised to add: It occurs to me that if what I actually mean is "what I saw from last year", then maybe I should add Nitro in there, since it obviously won't add itself.;) Also, that it's fairly funny how I say I liked Grindhouse, yet didn't "like" Death Proof or Planet Terror on their own...but, ya know? That really is true. WTF with separating them for later consumption, suckas?
Second revision/addition: Finished M.J. Rose's The Halo Effect, which hit a nice middle ground somewhere between legitimate thriller and rediscovering-my-sexuality erot-fic...it's shooting for Anais Nin, but ends up more as Anne Rampling without the stupider bits. Still, I can see why Douglas Clegg recommended it, because it certainly sucks you in (I got done with it in three concentrated hours, though needing a distraction from severe diarrhea helped).
