After a while of not writing, I suppose what you have to do is admit that you’re probably choosing to not write, on some level. Choosing not to concentrate hard enough. Choosing to be distracted: Yes, all of that. Which means you can also choose to stop choosing to, I suppose—so, okay. I choo-choo-choose!

Lots of people still seem really pissed off with A) last Monday’s Heroes episode and B) Heroes in general. Can they genuinely believe the not-so-subtext is that we’re actually "supposed" to forgive Noah Bennett for everything he’s done, just because some of us can’t help feeling relieved he’s still part of the narrative? How does that translate? As we all know, it is possible to feel for someone and yet fear what he can/is likely to do—even Bennett transformed will never, I think, be Bennett without the glorious moral greyness which lurks at the centre of his Company Man soul. He’s the guy who mid-wipes his loved ones, who lies with the truth, who’ll shoot his friends and willingly be shot in return. But maybe him being equated with Kaito Nakamura relates to Kaito’s "We are not gods" in that even a person who has (or had) no powers can’t act like a god, either…something West could stand to learn, and hopefully will. How I prayed for Elle’s bolt and/or the fall to teach him that being able to fly doesn’t make you Superman! But he does seem to have Nathan’s built-in friction shield, or something; creepy, stalkery little high school misanthrope fucker. The sooner Claire figures out he doesn’t deserve her, the better.

At any rate. I’m obviously not one of "those people", and I can’t wait for tonight. So on to bigger things.

As for the weekend, [livejournal.com profile] agincourtgirl’s wedding was intimate, slightly nerve-wracking—Cal saw the dance-floor and began to stomp and sing like a maniac, stimming constantly; Mom eventually ended up holding him and letting him feed himself Pringles throughout most of the ceremoney, until he suddenly started singing "Los Politos" at full volume, and Steve took him outside. Afterwards, Marcello gave a toast/speech which had all of us choking up slightly, and the dancing began. Around 7:00 PM, Steve and I left for the Burning Effigy launch, which went equally well…I met a guy named Vijay who had once had a crush on me, back in my eye Weekly days, and ended up selling him a copy of Kissing Carrion (my only sale all night, but what the hell). Great music by Cynthia Gould’s new band, High Heels Lo-Fi, who did an incredibly sparse version of "Dominion/Mother Russia" by Sisters of Mercy. And a good time, etc.

On Sunday I discovered I’d placed "Mrs Margery Lovett, Her Book" with Mythic Delirium (yay!), replaced my copy of The General and also bought four other DVDs (Dorm, Compulsion, The Dark Hours, Sidekick). Then, in the evening, [livejournal.com profile] theengineer came for dinner, which got Cal quite hilariously jacked up, considering that it’s not like the two of them were really interacting much. Worked out both days, too, which puts me automatically one up on last week.

And what else. Oh, I’ve been getting the most amusing spam headers recently—strings of random yet vaguely threatening nouns, like: "Swimming Pool Bomb Maze Earth Mouth", "Mosquito Airport Bottle Rope Airforce", "Ice Elephant Explosive Child Nail Leather Jacket X-ray", "Kitchen Vulture Bomb Hammer Bible." "They all sound like Pavement song titles," I told Steve, who smiled slightly, because I don’t think he’s ever actually heard any Pavement. Though it also occurs to me that, having just read 20th Century Ghosts, I could see Joe Hill writing a story built around that last one…something clever, meta and slightly self-infatuated about a dead hacker who transmits himself through the spam, like a virus, or something similar. (Geez, or maybe you should write that, Gemma—in the style of Joe Hill, parasiting on his authorial voice, the way you so often do with other writers you like. Ya know.)

Anyhoo…this has been fun, but gone on far too long (as ever). I need to go pick up Cal, walk to school, return the projector in my locker, and find out if John finally has some fucking money for me. And on we go!

Congratulations! Yay!

I have since my second year of college been attempting to write a piece entitled "Black Mirror Bathtub Gin," because the phrase got into my head somehow and it needs a story. So far, no luck. Perhaps the spam will serve as a catalyst . . .

Actually I believe we sold a few copies of WWB too, so it wasn't your only sale of the night! Thanks again for coming out and reading!

Excellent, and sorry! I should certainly qualify that as: "My only non-WWB sale of the night." As for the thanks, no no, thank you. I had lots of fun.

So you think. They were probably having one of those Shining telepathic conversations : )

I read your spam headers out loud, and now green_trilobite wants an Elephant Explosive.
