Wow!

"Spectral Evidence" just won the ChiZine Short Story Contest. Since I didn't even vaguely think I was going to place, this counts as a pretty (damn) good way to start the day...not least because judge Neil Gaiman had the deciding vote in a two-way tie.;)

cristalia: Congratulations. I seriously thought it would be you, and I really want to read "Deer's Heart" now. I apologize, but how amazing is it for both of us to finish that high out of 307 entries? Toronto rocks!

And now, I gotta go to work.

I knew it wasn't going to win, though. *grin*) I know what you mean about not expecting the story to place. When I got my email last year, I screamed so loudly my husband thought the cat had climbed me again.

Thank you! =) Man, you have no idea how many times that story got rejected and rewritten. The best feedback I got during that period was, "This is great. Is it fantasy or horror?" *thumps head on desk* (I'd intended it as SF.)
