Angel Heart hit me at just the right time, when I was doing a lot of thinking about identity, self, unconscious, and so on. There's parts of it that just don't work for me any more, but it really woke up my love for stories where the self turns on the self, and those stories where you don't know if it's magic or madness, and it doesn't really make any difference in the end.
My only gripe is the glowing eyes at the end. I wanted to hold on to that terrifying feeling of ambiguity. Is L.C. JUST a con-man, a kind of pretentious gangster, or is he old Billy himself?
