I agree that it is often necessary (just like the depiction of sexism is necessary, etc.). What you said about The Reapers doesn't really bother me, though. I mean, that's pretty close to demographically accurate, and IMO it's worse to insert Token People for the sake of having a diverse setting even when it doesn't fit (like Bella's friends in the Twilight movie).
