Jan. 31st, 2012 11:42 amAccording to the doctor, what Cal has is flu or possibly strep throat, plus a staph infection (Agh!) on his face. He prescribed antibiotics and a cream, both of which have already worked miracles. I have some variation on flu, possibly bronchitis; while Cal's case is complicated by the fact that he hasn't had his tonsils out yet, I had mine removed when I was younger than he is now, so I've dodged that bullet. Otherwise, all we can do is sit here at home, keep hydrated and sweat it out--literally, in my case, since while I don't feel feverish anymore, I'm already on my second shirt of the day. My throat is very sore, but I'm using Chloraseptic, which helps. Soon I'll call for the results of my throat swab, and we'll see if I need something more.
Otherwise, while waiting for the next instalment of the edit, I'm working on the hopefully final section of "Lackadaisy Nostalgiac" and messing around with deas for that King in Yellow Anthology story. I think I have something already partially developed that may fit quite nicely, though it's complicated...if I keep it Kafka/Vandermeer/Link-esque enough, though, like an evil modern fairytale, I just might be able to slide it in under the word-count bar. Second-person narrative, here we come!
In other news, I had the nice surprise of discovering that Pressburger and Powell's Black Narcissus was just about to start on TCM around the same time Steve left for work. I've always wanted to see it all the way through, and it's just as good as I'd heard it was. Also watched the rest of Small Town Murder Songs and a Kanedo Shindo film (he made Onibaba) called Kuroneko, both or which deserve real reviews, along with Black Narcissus. But righta t the moment, I need to save my brain for other shit.
