Yeah, so...Cal got a nice little pre-birthday week cold, and spent most of the weekend being scattershot, flippety and febrile. By this morning his rash-'stache was a lot better, though he'd developed a bit of a cough; he seemed a bit more on point, too, which was promising. This was capped off with a bit of domestic freakin' drama on Sunday, when Mom and Steve went at passive-agressive loggerheads with each other over a bunch of clothes (for me) from Additionelle. I think it resolved itself--he apologized to her for overreacting, while she seemed to accept it (I guess I'll find out the truth about that soon enough, if not), and he was eventually able to go out with his friends as planned that evening, returning in a good mood, early enough that I could go and do the shopping run we hadn't remembered to. I have vague recollections of her trying to fob the "real" responsibility for all of this off onto me, but you know what? I was tired enough by then that I just didn't give a damn.

Because yes, I too am sick. Sneezing, head full of snot, sweaty and tired; I stink, basically. Trying to organize my thoughts to see whether or not it's likely that I'm going to be able to crank out some wordage today. It would suck a lot if I couldn't continue with the fairly good start I made on Friday, re "Chess and Oona In Hell" Part Four. This really is the backbone of the book--if I can whip this fucker, I expect the rest to fall into place fairly (ha ha) easily.

Otherwise: Watched Thor and X-Men: First Class again, and find myself completely satisfied with both. 'Cause I'm an idiot, obviously, given how many things I've seen recently talking about how the plot of the latter "doesn't make sense", but I'm seriously uninterested in debating it.

(I think my favourite recurring comment thus far can be best summed up as: "But you did such a good job making me sympathize with Erik Lensherr, I just don't understand how he ended up turning into Magneto by the end! OOC, screenwriters, OOC!" This would be canon vs. fanon in a nutshell, ladies, is what I'm thinking; Erik becomes Magneto because Magneto needs to be Magneto for the rest of the X-mythology to work. He's never NOT ended up as Magneto in any variant narrative, for all that he's consistently slid back and forth between the twin poles of "Oh God, I almost killed a little phase-shifting Jewish girl, what the hell is wrong with me and I must fix my life, help me Charles Xavier, you're my only hope" and "Charles, my old friend, you are a bleeding heart not-Jewish rich guy who just doesn't understand what has to be done--now excuse me, I must go strip-mine Genosha, kill all the humans and remake it into MUTANT ISRAEL! Ha ha HA, THE FUTURE IS NOW, I am SO AWESOME!" [To which Charles, in his turn, can only ever reply, in a mentally-projected Morbo voice: "EVOLUTION DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY, ERIK! Good night!"])

Anyhow. To bath or not to bath? To gym or not to gym? Or simply noodle around with playlists and try to rough out further conversation between Chess, Oona and [spoiler]? I'm already sick of being sick, and it's only been a few days; check back by Wednesday, man. I'll be turning the Bifrost on Jotunheim, for sure.

Amended to add: In far more interesting news, CZP has agreed to published Kenneth Mark Hoover's amazing Haxan novel! He credits me with brokering this deal, which may be pushing things a bit, but I'm very, very happy for him, and very proud of having consistently recommended it when it was still in the slush pile. One way or t'other, now I eventually get to A) read it and B) own it, which was my evil plan all along. Other Weird Western writers, for the win!
