Actually, today turned out a lot better than it looked like it was going to. Because Cal's bag was left at home, I came to school early so that he could actually eat a snack and not go insane before lunch. I therefore got to meet and talk to the Autism Consultant they had in, looking at/adjusting his schedule, and sign off on the changes she wanted to make, all of which work very well for me. And better yet, I'd completely forgotten that this was the day I was supposed to come in and volunteer to go to a Young People's Theatre production of Alice in Wonderland with him--but since I was there already, no problem. I played his "buddy" throughout the afternoon, and am pleased to report he was A) quite fascinated and B) considerably better-behaved than the NT kids all around him. We then went home early, had a bathroom break and fries, and got back in time to watch The Wiggles.

New homework: Find something Alice-related for Cal to colour or copy, by next Wednesday. And yes, I'm taking over St. Mike's duty. It's frigging hard enough getting Steve to stay on point with Surrey Place, and this is fifteen times more complicated. Things need to stay consistent.

(Man, though: I really don't envy the poor Grade One homeroom teacher, because those kids are LOUD and DO NOT LISTEN. At least with Cal, I've had to train him pretty rigorously--he'll try on a bit of flippity-floo-ness and rolling on the floor at first, but if I get in his face and grab him by the wrist, eventually he stops. I don't know what you'd have to do to get those kids to pay that much attention...and you know what? I don't really want to know, either.)

Thus far in writing, meanwhile: Working on the Prologue, which once more involves a series of braided documents. I need to show that time has passed, that things have changed, that various threats are becoming imminent, and I think I'm doing okay. Yet more new characters are turning up, which is annoying, yet necessary. And once I have all that shit in place, I can concentrate on getting Chapter One how it needs to end up: Two armies, unalike in expertise/In fair Bewelcome, where we lay our scene...
