So...the last four days have been simultaneously fun and strenuous, embracing as they did a friend/publisher's birthday party, the CZP Fall launch, and the first-ever Toronto SpecFic Colloqium. All three went swimmingly, involved lots of performance stress (by the end of my talk on "Queering the Genre" with Michael Rowe, I genuinely felt like I was about to spontaneously combust--and this wasn't helped by the fact that the U of T ROTC marching band started playing halfway through, then set off an honest-to-God cannon) and a fair amount of drinking, and left me so exhausted that yesterday I did little except sleep, shop and watch Predators on DVD.
(Short story? I enjoyed it. Good tension between fulfilled expectations and twisting of same. The denouement with Topher Grace's character was particularly well-handled, in retrospect. I also didn't think people were short-handed or stereotypes, two ideas I've seen bandied about, but then, I guess I'm probably bad at perceiving shit like that [as proven].)
But, but, but: Gotta get back on the horse in a fierce and furious way, which is really not helped by the fact that Cal had some sort of Sir Poops-a-lot thing going on last night, so we kept him home for today. And now he's all happy and fairly communicative, which is great, but even just having him around is a bit of a time/energy-suck. Yes, yes: Shitty Mommy talk. But it's just true.
October is over on Sunday, and I have two--maybe three--chapters to go, so I need to up my word-count substantially. How-eva, at least I've already filed Part One, so possibly I can negotiate yet more leeway. And just keep gooooooing.
Amended to add: More pre-Hallowe’en Japanese ghost story madness up at scans_daily--two Junji Ito adaptations of a TV series, which he’s re-named Mimi’s Ghost Stories. Both have that serious uncanny vibe going on. The first is here (http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/2480643.html), the second here (http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/2484832.html). Enjoy!
