Amazing guy. I mean, he always was, from my perspective...I've really enjoyed his championship of film as a functional art-form, his understanding of his own filters and tapes, his humane admission that most things can mean more than one thing to many different people, and that every movie must/should be evaluated for its crossover qualities of reference rather than the things which stroke us the wrong way as individuals. As he's entered what he cheerfully admits is probably the last part of his life, he's further amazed me by only becoming more humane, more open-minded, more diligent, more prolific. It's an incredible example.

So--recently, Ebert decided to rescind his longstanding statement that he doesn't think any video/computer game can be "art", mainly because he admits that he can't really argue the point rationally: In order to know if the very vocal proponents of computer games are "right" or not, or even form an informed opinion on the matter, he would have to invest a substantial amount of time in playing at least one game to its conclusion. And that's either just time he doesn't have, anymore, or--more logically--time he would rather spend doing something he knows he's going to like, like A) watching films, B) writing about them and C) being with his wife and kids, as he prepares to transition from life to whatever.

Cool, right? But many folks simply won't take "I choose not to" as an answer, and continue to lobby him in such a strident way that I want to take them aside and say: Dude, the guy can't talk, can't eat, and he has the right to decide how the rest of his fairly limited amount of consciousness is disposed of. Do you not GET that? Where've you BEEN? At least Google him, for Christ's sake!

Aaaand...then I remember it's the Internet, and all is revealed. Oh yeah! Riiight. Never mind.

In other news, my ancient iPod randomly decided to lock all my files and tell me it wasn't loaded, thus forcing me to reset it completely, so I lost all my playlists. Annoying. I'm reloading it manually, from scratch, but all I can do right now is use it like a Shuffle. Rrrrgh.
