A Rope Of Thorns: THUD (Plus Pimpin')
Jan. 4th, 2010 12:24 pmToday's stats, thus far--
A Rope of Thorns: Book Two in the Hexslinger Series
Words added: 1,002; Section One of Chapter One almost achieved.
The fun: Compacting Previously, on-type exposition into 1860s-era fake documents; researching the Pinkertons and stumbling over potential new characters; making up "Wanted" posters.
The grind: Formating said fake documents, including "Wanted" posters.
Words overall: 17,709.
In other news, EVolVe, the "future shape of vampirism" anthology (edited by Canadian Horror grand dame Nancy Kilpatrick) which will contain my story "When I'm Armoring My Belly", is starting to take pre-orders; their publisher, Edge SF&F, is taking a bit of a gamble by venturing into horror at all, but the results--all CanHo showcase Tesseracts 13, for example, which Nancy co-edited with David Morrell--have been uniformly great thus far. So why not take a chance of your own, if you can?;) You'll find the relevant information here (http://www.vampires-evolve.com/).
Meanwhile, since I've effectively made my quota for today, I think I'll take that load of crap I winnowed out of Cal's room this morning downstairs to the garbage/recycling, then stumble off into the day. I have more of those Sunburst Awards books to read, after all--seven down since the box arrived, and twenty-three to go. (Oh, and that's just the first box, BTW.)
Ladies, gentlemen; others. I bid you all adieux.
Amended to add: Oh my GOD, Peter Watts, you magnificent bastard! You stole my idea (though to be fair, this is probably the same idea every specfic writer who loves that movie in the world has had, ever), and you managed to professionally publish a piece of John Carpenter fanfic! Hats off to you sir. Hats off.
For those who are interested: "The Things" by Peter Watts, in Clarkesworld, here (http://clarkesworldmagazine.com/watts_01_10/).
