New Story Post: "Jack-Knife"
Nov. 8th, 2009 11:48 pmMy latest addition to Dark is Better is "Jack-Knife: A Melodrama Inspired from Life, in Fourteen Vocal Tableaux", a Ripperiana-inspired faux radio-play that draws much from my experience listening to my Mom perform on CBC sound-horror shows like Nightfall, which always opened with a man falling "...alone, in the whistling dark..." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightfall_(CBC)#CBC_Toronto). It was first published in Shivers IV, from Cemetery Dance--and grateful as I remain for the exposure, I can only hope it finds a slightly wider audience here (http://sites.google.com/site/jackknifeamelodramainspiredfro/).;) Enjoy!
P.S.: Though the show only ran three seasons, I remember having a bunch of Nightfall scripts hanging around in my room for years after they stopped producing it--like the one called "Angel's Kiss", where Mom played a succubus some dude picked up in a bar, or their Erzebet Bathory two-parter, "The Blood Countess: Blood Red" and "TBC: Blood Blue". Eventually, however, I used them all for scrap paper, and went on to write other stuff on the backs; not this, though. Just...stuff like this.
Ah, memory.
