Ran Cal over to Surrey Place as "normal" this morning, then spent most of the day doing crap-work--of a novelistic kind, for once. Ie, making a genuine separate document/folder combo for A Rope of Thorns, moving all RoT-related notes currently in the main file over there instead, then shuffling all remaining A Book of Tongues notes around into their duly designated slots. And weeding out the obsolete stuff as I went, too, which was scary yet freeing, as always. Which means we now know that A Book of Tongues will come to seventeen chapters plus an epilogue/afterword by the time I'm done with it, and that the overall word-count now hovers at around 78,000, which means I have more space to work with than I'd previously thought: Score! (Especially so since at least 2,000 words or more of that is research material, which will eventually get used, then discarded.)

In other news, last night the agent got back to me on my revised outline for Blood from the Air, which she likes, and wants to pursue. Could I give her a time-table? After a brief episode of panic, I came up with this:

August--Tweak BTFA manuscript as it stands, which mainly means moving or removing the Prologue, spicing up Chapter One, an establishing a secondary "narrator" for Spooky Stuff Our Heroine Doesn't Know in Chapter Two. This while simultaneously finishing Chapters Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen and Fourteen of BoT. Start roughing out "scene-ment" (like scriptment) for rest of BFTA.
September--Finish Chapters Fifteen, Sixteen and Seventeen of BoT, plus Afterword. Write Chapter Three of BFTA, to complete classic three-chapter package. Cut current eight-page outline down to two-page pitch.
October--Turn in Draft Zero of BoT. Make/get rewrite notes. Go deeper with "scene-ment" of BFTA, hopefully finish. Start (and possibly finish) rewrite on BoT.
November--Should by now have formalized deadline for RoT; extend notes into rough outline; begin to write. Start simultaneously fleshing out Draft Zero of BFTA, from Chapter Four on up.

This is barring anything horrible happening in the interim, naturally, and there's always the possibility that a short story or two will be added to the pile--but since I've mainly decided to co-write with Steve (aka the king of wordage on demand) on shorter pieces for the next little while, I really don't think it should interfere. I know myself, and I know I'm more than ready to start this next part of my life, officially...continue it, rather. Keep it up. Deadlines are my friend, after all...

Yeah.;) So, anyhow: That's that. And now I have to go pick up Flippy McFlip.
