Thursday Update
Sep. 18th, 2008 02:59 pmPROJECTS LIST (Partial, Updated)
Sent:
“When I’m Armoring My Belly”, to Tesseracts 13
“The Speed of Pain”, to Cemetery Dance Magazine
“Jar of Salts”, to Strange Horizons
Accepted:
“Song Of The Mother”, Not One of Us
“Sown From Salt,” The Harrow
“The Jacaranda Smile”, Apparitions anthology
“Fin De Siecle”, Doorways
“at the moment I am living in a haunted house—”, Not One of Us
“Tantalus, Reaching Upwards” and “Minotaur”, on hold at ChiZine
“Marya Nox”, Ellen Datlow’s new Lovecraft-themed anthology (tentatively called Lovecraft Unbound)
“Speedometer”, Lone Star Stories (fastest turnaround EVAR!)
Next on the Docket:
A) Invoice for Montage article (my editor sent me a very kind letter telling me what a professional he thought I was and how great the article was, please pitch more, which makes me feel sort of good and sort of weepy at the same time), “Speedometer”, last FearZone column.
B) Figure out what I’m going to do for the next FearZone column, get on that.
C) Select one of my previously-published stories (probably from The Worm…) to build my Dark Arts anthology submission around.
D) Finish inputting all notes for “Crossing the River”, the story I started writing on Monday, which is going creepily well (considering it began as a genderfucked Prison Break/Supernatural crossover piece). This is what I think I’ve learned from writing fanfic, weirdly enough: When you want something, just jump in and create it; serial-number filing somewhat optional, at least in the initial stages.
I must admit, it still surprises me how well this whole “poetry” thing is working for me, these days. Maybe it’s a simple length issue, maybe not—but I do feel as though it’s finally becoming less of a side-project, a hobby, than it’s been hitherto. And one way or the other, 2008’s been a damn good year thus far.;)
