Some Things Which Make Me Happy
Oct. 20th, 2007 08:48 pmHey. You know what's not so useful, in context? Staying up almost all night because you have really bad PMS, especially if it happens A) after a nine-hour day at school and B) when you have something you really need to work on, but you're so fucking exhausted you can't do anything efficiently except read other people's novels--in this case, Heartsick by Cassandra Cain (good) and Wheel of Darkness by Preston and Child (not "good" per se, but enjoyable).
Bill Burke finally popped up again--excellent. He wants a rewritten version of the No Vacancies treatment by Monday--not so excellent.
So. I wake up this morning with an hour to go before BodyFlow, go there, do that. Discover I got my period, which solves that mystery. Have lunch with Mom, Steve and Cal. Some time-wasting ensues before we have to get Cal's hair cut. Some shopping after that. Get home, and I'm just knackered. Lie down. Wake up at 7:30 PM, brainless. It's nearing 9:00 PM, and I'm still not much better. Must see friends tomorrow, plus work out (hopefully), plus get the treatment up to speed. Other things loom in the background--still haven't picked up those books from Pages, for example, or that $15.00 from Bakka. Etc.
At any rate--
I'm happy that Cal is happy, which he mainly is. Especially so since we accidentally taught him "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", plus bits of TMBG's "The Guitar".
I'm happy that I got to see Wade Robeson's Dancing With the Stars routine on Youtube. Also clips of him from his "I broke up Justin and Britney" days, all lanky and awkward, with awful Lance Bass hair.
I'm happy that
jodylinn liked Words Written Backwards enough to review it on her LJ--thanks! Though I'll point out that the Native people who summoned Joe Tulugaak to Algonquin Lake are not in themselves Innu, but probably...Algonquin, I would think. Here's where I really need to hire a fact-checker.;)
I'm happy that if you go to Youtube right now, you could access all these videos: "Dr Worm" by TMBG (They call me Dr Worm/I'm not a real doctor but I AM a real worm, I am/An actual worm...), "Apologise" by One Republic (Timbaland or non-Timbaland version), Mandy Moore's cover of "Umbrella", Frida Snell's cover of "Bullet with Butterfly Wings", Skinny Puppy's unbearably beautiful and intensely distressing "Worlock", a wonderful medley of Dario Argento clips by some dude named digitalshark, "Sleeping Sun" by Nightwish (Tarja version), "Nemo" by Nightwish (Annette version), "Fearless" by the Bravery, "Washington" by Cox & Combes (He'll kick you apart!/He'll KICK YOU APART!), the Professor Brothers Present History Lesson #1 (subject: "JF...K."), "Imitosis" by Andrew Bird (We are all basically alone) and "The Impotence of Proofreading" by Taylor Mali, which is pants-pissing funny exactly because it's so horribly true.
I'm happy because I saw a version of London After Midnight on TCM last night--the lost Lon Chaney film, cobbled together from stills and intertitles. And although I think it could have been handled far better overall in terms of execution/exposition, today I actually think I figured out what the entire plot must have been, once upon a time.
I'm happy because I have friends who genuinely do seem to care whether or not I'm happy, bless them.
I'm happy because I'm not dead. Yet.
