"That's...So Irresponsible."
Apr. 29th, 2007 01:44 amSo the weekend came, finally. Steve and I went out on Friday, had dinner at Montana's and caught Next--not as bad as everybody's been calling it, but not exactly fascinating either, as proven by the fact that I fell asleep for a fairly large chunk of it and still didn't feel I missed much. Cute, but no cigar.
Today, OTOH, we did BodyFlow, picked up Cal, bought new shoes (mine are actually guys', which I didn't realise was even an option...and MAN, they look better than the usual glitter-infected womens' crap), Warren Zevon's The Envoy, NIN's Year Zero, Death Notes #6 to #11, and the latest Hellboy GN (the one with "The Island" in it). Watched Deja Vu, which is everything Next was trying hard to be, and had a brief conversation about why the critics had dumped so hard on it, when it was still in theatres. I think they might have thought it was flip or "easy", because there's a hint of the reset device trope in its denouement--but really, the emotional depth and resonance makes up for it. Nobody gets away without a bit of blood-loss, which is my sort of time travel in a nutshell.
Tonight: Fifty of the 250 questions down. Tomorrow: Need to do real work on the other stuff, as well as do at least seventy-five more. Oh, and vaccum.
BTW, if you're wondering where the titular quote comes from, that'd be Death Note--the official manga of pretty, anal-retentive people with God complexes vs. slacker death-spirits. I'm sure it says something bad about me that I can continue to sympathize with a guy whose drive to frighten the whole world into behaving (or else) has thus far gotten his sister kidnapped and traumatized, his father killed, and himself trapped in a sexless "marriage" with an idiot idoru who's just as potentially lethal as he is while his pet shinigami hovers around and chuckles about it, but...there ya go. Light Yagami for Emperor!
