This System is Demented
Jan. 16th, 2007 01:32 pm...and getting only more and more so, from my POV. It used to be relatively easy to log on from work, and now it's not; logging in from home is virtual friggin' nightmare. What is causing this bullshit? How can it be rectified?
At any rate: Thanks, very much, to those who took the time to comment on the whole "Does Cal have autism? Oh NOES!" thang. It seems increasingly unlikely, let's put it that way, as proven by a whole bunch of stuff.
So naturally, this frees me up to do other things--like obssess instead over how increasingly wigged I am that my husband apparently "relaxes" by surfing neocon blogs whose main focus seems to be find ways to be snarkily exclusionary of those in bad circumstances. People whose hearts weep for AIDS victims in Africa, but basically think all the people with AIDS in North America A) got it through doing something nasty so B) should shut up and suck it, bitch. Extend this mandate to cover everything from people in New Orleans complaining about the government's rate of response (they were all fat, lazy, gay and drunk anyhow! In Hawaii we had a tidal wave plus a hurricane, and did WE go crying to Spike Lee? Nuh uh!) to...well, take your fuckin' pick. These people think letting three people legally parent a child (lesbian couple who are raising her, plus the sperm donor) opens the door for polygamy, bestiality and the Death of Western Civilization. They also think Little Mosque on the Prairie is less a sort of dumb idea for a sitcom, sort of badly-executed, than hideous Muslim plot to make non-Muslims look like idiots and themselves look "normal".
And this is the guy I love, the guy I had a kid with--the guy who either believes this stuff, or thinks some of it might be true, or thinks he should at least be fair and read this as much as "the liberal cant the mainstream media shoves down our collective throats", which would be another big topic on said blogs, forae, etc. Readers, I married him.
In other news, went to see Pan's Labyrinth. It rocks and rules. And now I want to write some sort of weird Farthingesque A/U sequel, in which Spain's Fascist regime is destroyed when the hills open to disgorge the conquering fairie armies of Ofelia-Moanna, Queen of the Underworld! (BTW, this isn't really much of a spoiler, depending on how you interpret Pan's overall worldview.)
Okay, off to class. Ta, all.
