...after spending so much time whining about not being able to kick my own ass sufficiently, life has finally/obligingly done it for me: My producer says he now needs the No Vacancies pitch package (one-sheet, plus ten-page treatment) soonest, though thankfully, he likes what he's seen thus far. So I'll hammer hard at that tomorrow night, taping Prison Break and Heroes, and hopefully be able to present it to him on Tuesday. Meanwhile, I also have to keep going with the story-edit of my former student's comic opus, because she has a similarly tight deadline (and I needs to get PAID, as Snails in Dungeons & Dragons would put it). This backburners anything else pretty neatly, allowing me more space to revisit my own entrails and form new attack plans for later on.

In other news, the weekend mainly consisted of chores, consumption (What Fire Cannot Burn by John Ridley, that crazy bastard, who manages to break out of the character-driven plot-hole he wrote himself into with Those Who Walk in Darkness, and If Angels Burn, Lynn Viehl (pbackwriter on blogspot)'s first Darkyn novel) and Cal's new cold. Which he already seems to have given to Mom, and probably to me, too--so no, he won't be going to daycare tomorrow after all. But then, it wasn't like we were going to pay them anyhow (Mom was going to be there with him all day, which makes it count more as a drop-in experience), and I'm sure they'd prefer he not infect anybody else. Still, we also signed up for a brand-new mattress and boxspring at Sleep Country, due to arrive on the 14th. It has memory-foam!

And finally...World War Z, by Max Brooks, is one of the best books I've read in years. It's gorgeously researched, horridly true-feeling, psychologically apt. It made me cry a few times. The interview method is an amazing way of framing things, a lesson in how context and content make talking heads interesting. After a while, the fact that it's "about zombies" almost seems irrelevant--this is human loss and resilience under an epic microscope. So there you go.

Oh, and enjoy another Gangs icon, while you're here. I intend to be swapping these around for a while. It's all part of my evil plan to put myself in a very particular sort of mood.;)
