Update Time!
Aug. 29th, 2006 03:18 amGearing up for the Festival of Fear, or should be. Instead, what happened for most of today was us chasing Cal around (he's insane!) and picking up chairs, which really didn't have to take as long as it did. I also actually haven't heard anything--as yet--from anybody at Rue Morgue about what I'm supposed to be doing, where, or when, anyhow; hopefully, people can get that information to me quick enough that this whole shindig ends up salvagable. I'm totally on board, guys. Throw me a bone.
Other than that:
A) HUGE congratulations to
agincourtgirl, whose trip to London has resulted in a marriage proposal. I'm very glad and excited to see her moving on to this amazing new phase in her life, though naturally enough I'm going to miss her terribly, when the change finally comes. Luckily for my selfish ass (and Cal's), however, it doesn't seem to be happening immediately.;)
B) Still picking away at "The Jacaranda Smile", because I'd love to have a full version of that to take to Fest o' Fear with me. It's definitely got a spine now, and I'm just going to have to force my way through, cutting out the dead bits as I go. Word-count around 8,000 right now, but that's going to drop when I cut out most of an extensive personal essay I almost made into the whole last section.
Still, the biggest question about this project has yet to be answered: What will Dad think, if and when? Janina can probably deal with it. But Dad...well, I knew what I was doing, didn't I? That's what makes it worthwhile. As Ginger so wonderfully puts it in Ginger Snaps: "If you don't like your ideas, stop having them!"
C) I ordered the collected works of Charles Fort, mainly to see what
greygirlbeast's so enthused with, and--that guy's a freak. A wonderful, wonderful freak, of the "open to any page at random and end up with the quote of the day" variety. I'll make sure to provide a sampling, next time.
All right, back to the endless Fifth Term projects report. I looked at maybe 35 of them over last week; 13 are clear "yeses". Some seem like desperate fantasies vaguely committed to paper by people who've spent four semesters at the TFS and somehow managed to not learn a damn thing about film production. Fascinating, if scary.
Amended to add, at 2:17 AM:
Ha HA! DONE! 7,011 words...sent off already, to the last publishing-oriented person who envinced any interest in it. Eight years, from idea to realization. DONE!
Great shouts out to Steve, for editing and objectivity. How are we so awesome?;)
