10 Days, This Time
Mar. 2nd, 2006 01:39 pmThat's how long it took for me to finish "Every Angel", probably because it's smaller than "Dead Voices on Air", though not by much...7,788 words, which doesn't exactly equal the 5,000 or under I was originally aiming for. Not to mention that The Chiaroscuro wants stuff 4,000 words and under, anyhow(!), and I can't remember having written something that short since I was maybe 20. But I queried Brett Savory and sent him "Heart's Hole", because A) it's damn good, if I dare say so myself, B) I just really, really want something of mine to get in ChiZine and C) I'd sure rather have it appear there than the place it would have originally appeared, had those people actually gotten their heads far enough out of their own asses to publish it when they first said they would, instead of breaking the deadline and then letting me recall it. Their loss.
Still, exciting. And speaking of exciting, Canada finally made its 5% goal--last year, Canadian-made films accounted for 5.6% of our domestic theatrical box-office take. To understand why this is a pretty big deal, you first have to understand that when the goal was originally set, in 2000, Canadian films only accounted for 1.6%; this is an amazing leap forward, especially in five short years. Never mind that French-Canadian films account for most of it, and their core audience is only inside their own province...
