Old Pirates, Yes, They Rob I
May. 27th, 2005 10:22 pmTitle's not really in tune (ha ha) with much except last night's Lost finale, Sawyer's referencing of it, etc. Though I certainly was amused by the apparent sidelong connections between him choosing that particular song and A) the Black Rock, B) Sun, Claire and Shannon's discussion about fate vs. randomness and C) the overall philosophical undertone of the entire series. Because here on Karma Island you get what you deserve, and nothing is coincidental. Which is, naturally, exactly how I like it.
Surfing around, I've since discovered the apparently requisite amount of hate for the fact that no REAL BIG QUESTIONS were answered. At the end of the first season, no less: Gracious, y'all. It reminds me, yet once more, how we've come to accept the standalone episodic or procedural TV show as the basic model, the only "right" or "normal" way to tell a story. This defeated my expectations in ways which often outright thrilled me, opened up (literally) some new plot strands, creeped me out and left me with a cliffhanger I cursed more out of habit than out of dissatisfaction. In other words, I have no complaints; I'm well set up for this Fall.
Meanwhile, still no writing. I discovered yet another variant on the Maskim Chant yesterday, in a Robert Silverberg revisioning of Gilgamesh, and think I'll use it in Chapter Five (if I ever get there). I also noodled around in my Unfinished Stories folder, narrowed the likeliest candidates for completion down to two (one of which might eventually become the Prologue to yet another book), did some stylistic and contextual research. But I do keep sort of thinking about Saturday, when Steve kindly took Cal out for four or so hours in order to let me bash away at Blood From The Air, which then utterly refused to jump-start. My time to fuck around is running out, rather rapidly--but what can you do, except what you can do? Nothing much.
At any rate: I need to get off, write my Dad, do some other email-y stuff. Here's a question for all you people who care, though...were I to somehow try and ease back into the book through the medium of flash-fiction, what fandoms and/or pairings would you most like to see me attempt? (But--apologies and thanks in advance--please don't point me towards stuff I have no knowledge of, even if it's what you most want to see more fic for, okay? As you know, I'm poor and really strapped for time.)
Oh, man. Think I could have put that in a slightly more insulting way? Probably not. But I'd appreciate the input anyhow, if you don't mind.;)
Yours in blockeditude, Gemma.
