The Soundtrack Of our Lives
Apr. 28th, 2005 09:41 amWell, that’ll teach me to expect feedback just because I got some previously; possibly the story came with too much homework attached, or possibly (whatever). OTOH, I’m happy enough I finally got the damn thing done, because maybe—just maybe—it’ll clear the decks for some actual work-type work of the sort I am absolutely going to have to concentrate on until I go back in July; deadlines are my friend, etc. It’d be pretty choice to be able to finish up with Act One by then, at least.
One way or the other, I very much enjoyed my trip to TFS yesterday, especially so given how many times I ended up having this rather amusing conversation:
Student: "Gemma! Where you been, man?"
Me: "At home, looking after my baby."
Student: "…you had a baby?"
Me: "Well, YES. Remember that time I came into class and said I was pregnant? And then I started gaining all that weight and being tired all the time? And then I said I’d be leaving at the end of the term, so I could take maternity leave? Because I was going to have a baby?"
Student: "…"
Me: "Man, you guys really weren’t listening to anything I said in class, were you?"
Student: "Well…the stuff you said about film…"
Cue the awkward pause, broken only when they asked for photos.;)
Anyway—Cal is intermittently pissed today, possibly because of what may be an ear infection, or his teeth, or the fact that I refuse to let him wedge his head into the tiny space behind the TV so he can chew on all the wires back there. Last night he was crying a lot about "nothing", which doesn’t bode very well. But the culture they took at the clinic won’t be back until Friday morning, so I guess we’ll just have to see.
Meanwhile, now that I’m finished insulting everybody on my flist by extension, here’s the Fic Soundtrack meme, gakked from
callmerizzo:
Create a virtual soundtrack CD for one of your fics. Include any songs you used to inspire the writing, or others that you think would work as a musical score for your story. Post the song names and artists in your LJ, and tell why each one belongs on your fic's soundtrack CD.
This is easier than it might seem, because I normally do create soundtracks for what I write anyhow—or did, up until my tape-deck went wonky. Which is why the first thing I’m going to do when I start making real money again is to save up for a CD burner/software package, and start doing it again. It’ll really help with the "weeding down useless CDs" project, too.
So: "My Wife and My Dead Wife", the Soundtrack. Which goes a li’l something like this—

Okay, that took a LOT longer than I thought it would, so now I must go and save Cal from crying himself to death in baby jail, where I parked him after his third attempt to get at either the wires or the kitchen. See y’all.
