Muse-sick

Oh my GOD, Cal is hypersensitized today, like his default setting has suddenly switched to "shriek". Last night we were at Steve’s parents’ for the long-awaited visit with the cousins, which probably didn’t help—he loved it, but it was exhausting, for hims and everybody else. Now he’s just screaming and screaming, no matter what the input; I put him in the crib right after breakfast and his usual bath, but he refused to take his bottle or calm down until he’d cried for ten minutes straight. After which he then went so dead asleep that even the super finally changing the fan coil (after a year…didn’t happen last time because nobody was here to move the TV) wasn’t enough to rouse him…yeah, gonna be an interesting fucking day around here, I can already tell. Jesus.

All right, so: Another "cool kids" meme. Because it’s not like anything else/real is jump-starting for me right now.

1. Total volume of music on my computer.

Not a damn thing. It’s A) probably still too slow, but B) to be frank, I don’t want to find out. The idea of being able to download music makes my eyes itch, in terms of potential for complete time-wastery.

2. Last CD I bought.

That’d probably be American Idiot by Green Day, which I got primarily for Steve, who kept going on about how much he liked "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"…not that much, I guess, since I don’t think he’s listened to the rest of it all the way through yet. But then again, both of us often take a while to get into "new" stuff; instead, we tend to spend an insane amount of time per week just re-listening to stuff we loved when we were 15 or so, because we are lame lame lame.

3. Last song I listened to before doing this meme.

Do TV jingles count as songs? Because that "I want you…to TAKE ME ON" song they play over that suddenly-ubiquitous—Playstation?—ad is hideously catchy.

4. Five songs I listened to a lot this week.

"Hello Earth", Kate Bush (Hounds Of Love)—more and more the unofficial Blood From The Air theme-song, with its crazed pre-Apocalyptic choir and semi-God’s-eye-view narrator: "I was there at the start, out of the clouburst, the head of the tempest…Murderers, murderers…" And no, you don’t know what I’m talking about, and there’s no reason in the world you should…but I do, and it really does help to have something in the so-called Real World echo what’s attempting to pull itself from my brain. A lot.

"Way of the World", Max Q (Self-Titled)—similarly, this works extraordinarily well as a reflection of the Charlie Jade pilot, which we watched on Saturday: Not the same sort of fine TV crack that Battlestar Galactica provided, but interesting nonetheless, and a great example of something Canadian that somehow managed to produce itself without begging or scraping for the Yankee dolla. Plus, the song slots best into Charlie’s home-‘verse, the corporate-noir Beta-, where people certainly do seem to be "born into this world looking down the barrel of a gun/And those who hold that gun want you to work fast and die young."

"No Spill Blood", Oingo Boingo (Best o’Boingo)—Did I dream it, or was the Friday Frightmare really The Island of Dr Moreau, complete freak version? No, that’s right, it was; thus the song. "What happens when the rules aren’t fair?/We all know where we go from THERE!/To the House of Paaaaaaiiiinnnn…."

"They Moved the Moon", Warren Zevon (Transverse City)—another sad Zevonian vision of love gone bad while you got somehow distracted, with an added sci-fi fillip. And one of his songs that almost nobody else knows or appreciates but me, and Steve, who’s take a wonderful liking to this otherwise-ignored album. Which is why I love him.

"Fatal", the Rza (Blade: Trinity Soundtrack)—you all know this is coming out on DVD this Tuesday, right? Think it’ll have the original ending appended? Either way, I’m going to rent it and possibly buy it, depending on our financial status. Because, as I mentioned before…lame..

5. Five people I want to do this meme.
Well, it’s not like anybody tapped me, is it? But I’d certainly be interested in hearing from the usual suspects, me-style: [livejournal.com profile] agincourtgirl, [livejournal.com profile] moon_custafer, [livejournal.com profile] mightygodking, [livejournal.com profile] benet, [livejournal.com profile] theengineer, and anybody else I’ve friended who’d like to jump on board. Or who I haven’t. Always room for more music recs in this world.

Okay—still quiet. I think I’ll try and work out, or hey! Maybe even WRITE. Crazier things have happened.
