Laying Foundations
Feb. 10th, 2005 10:59 amCal is finally asleep again behind me, so I should be doing yoga. Instead, I'm doing this.
Spent much of yesterday inputting links for my Friends page, the perk I've always wanted/envied vis-a-vis LJ participation--even back when I originally had an LJ (under the username "glf"), my browser was simply too primitive to support the sheer weight of everything I was interested in. This works better, to say the least; the trick now is to strike a nice balance between communities, people I "know" and what I'd call portal entries--ie, people whose interests I share enough of to guarantee me that they'll make recs and form links I'd kick myself for not following. Example Number One: Surf via penknife to selenak to a wondeful post on genderswapping characters, and end up with a side-order of Carnivale commentary (complete with Season Two spoilers, which I've done my best to ignore). All in all, time well wasted.
I suppose I should put together some sort of "Who am I?" FAQ. Fannish-type stuff, since that'll be this diary's purview. Not all the communities I've friended thus far are fannish in nature, but most. I signed up for one composed of Catholic Moms, for example, because it occurs to me that I need to know how all the other Moms I'll meet once Cal's in Sunday school/kindergarten/actual Catholic school think. He'll be getting baptized soon, after all.
Details: As you might figure from the above, I'm not myself Catholic, though marrying Steve required me to sign a form saying I'd educate Cal in the faith. Steve's parents are pretty firmly post-Vatican Two, though, and I think having a faith is a good thing, even if it makes you ask hard questions--particularly if it makes you ask hard questions. Questions like: "Is Mommy going to Hell?, to name just one.
"Wellll...Limbo, probably, son. But Limbo's the one you can get out of, eventually."
And now I'm making my husband sound like Priest Vallon, which seems like a good place to quit.
