I had to laugh over your description of Equilibrium. The entire cast played it straight-- not a single moment of *nudge nudge, wink wink* at the camera. This movie takes itself way too seriously, and that is half the charm. Only at the end does Christian Bale crack, and by then, he's earned it.

Movies that parody their genre are cool, but the movies I love are the ones that try hard to make the crack-headed material work.
